Massive metal extruded bumpers and rocker panels add an element of toughness and durability.
For all those that think the bumpers are plastic, I'm sure they will look more like metal in person. I like the look of the truck, its kind of "futuristic tough". You must remember that the next generation of buyers grew up on video games and it looks like the designers spent a lot of time with their PS2's. I think if they lower the hood line a few inches and took away a little of the fender bulge this would be one sweet looking truck and maybe decreased the center console down to where you could actually touch the person in the other seat. I would buy one and it would be about perfect timing to get rid of the old girl, the truck, not the wifey.

I would buy the HOnda before the Toyota FTX based on looks. The Toyota concept truck is not appealing at all to me.

OMG, you are smokin crack! Are you from the generation of the Transformers? Cause that's what the Honda truck looks like. Just paint it red and you have "Optimus Prime" to the rescue.
Honda is UGLY but I'm sure that the younger crowd from generation "X" will like it. Say those under 30 years old.
P.S. Give me your address so I can mail you back your 2 cents.
I like it i think it will grow on people. Always does. If its a one ton and a toyota i will buy it. I dont care as long as its comfortable and it rides good and good on gas and i can use it forever then its on my list. Peroid!!!
Now one thing I have learned about electrics (at least I think I've learned - from reading online, etc.) is that they supposedly have good torque, that hits you right from the Get go. Does anyone think that a hybrid Electric V8 will have torque that is comparable or at least compeititive to that of say a Diesel with some tweaking, with the similar fuel economy? Do you think this is the route Toyota make take?

I dont know but i know it will probably be durable and im almost sure if they can make a car get 60 mpg they can make a one ton that will outperform diesels in everyway. I would just feel good about driving it considering its not a diesel and i am saving the air from polutants.
I like the idea of the toolbox...of course I drive a truck because it is a truck and not because it happens to be the "in" thing right now.
As the owner of a construction company I too use my truck as a truck. My comment was in reference to that useless gimmick/gadget that Nissan put on the rear fender of the Titan that they call a toolbox. Have you seen it? It's too small to hold any real tools. They should have called it a glove box.

Honda will have a V6 motor (max) and is being built on their mini-van & Pilot frame. Not sure what Honda is thinking, but it is an interesting way to enter the truck market. NOT!
Most new SUV's (unibody) and SUT's (Avalanche) are being built to comply with the 'actual vehicle usage' of the owner in mind.
If you are a daily contractor, tow a daily trailor or fill the bed daily with mulch most of us truck owners never utilize the full utility of our vehicle. Unlike GM and Ford who keep building the same class/design of vehicle over and over again (one year square hood, one year rounded, one year octagaional), Toyota and Honda have actually identified what 80%+ of truck owners want and need. Living in Suburbia or downtown, do you really need an 8ft bed and all the hardware needed to drive to Lowes to fill the bed with three sheets of plywood once a year?
Toyota and Honda have both cleverly recognized that there is a market for such vehicles. These vehicles fit the niche nicely between a brute truck and a really functional truck/vehicle/SUV/SUT.
I don't think these vehicle are being targeted to the traditional Mason, Carpenter or other person who needs a 1 ton dually tow/haul monster and other trades that require brute force to achieve the goal. For my purpose, this FTX fits the bill perfectly and looks unique. Offering me a product that will satisfy my weekend warrior need and image, while providing a cool looking reliable modernistic vehicle that doesn't fit the GM/Ford design mold.
Who said Toyota and Honda had to follow the GM /Ford truck model? This FTX looks like it was designed by Jesse James on Monster Garage.

SACSTATE, I like your analysis and agree with your perspective. The only thing that I still maintain however is that this concept is almost a complete copy of the Chevrolet Silverado Concept which debuted on the cover of Truck Trend last summer (unfortunately I don't have any links to insert here with pictures.). Regardless, I'm sure Toyota will make it much better.

in all honesty, i thought the tundra was ugly at first, but it grew on me enough that i bought one. i think the concept is pretty cool looking, but could use some refinement, as all concepts usually do.
