Default Alarm ECU location 2000 limited?

I've searched here and the interweb's and have been told its on the firewall behind the steering column, behind the drivers kick panel, under the seat or behind the instrument cluster (I have not removed). I purchased a key fob from EBay and the instructions say to use a paper clip on the ECM to initiate programing, I'm good with that if I could find the dam thing.

    Thanks in advance...

I installed the RS3000 security system on my former 2000 SR5 and the Toyota installation instructions told me to mount mine to the right of the steering column with the enclosed zip- tys to a bracket that supported the column and the brake pedal assembly. I'm guessing that it was within 6 inches from the firewall and 6 to 8 inches to the right of the column itself. I also read that others from non Gulf State regions found theirs in other locations though.

If a combo of all these whizz bangs met their claims you'd have to siphon gas out of your tank every second day and sell the excess horsepower on the third????
If your engine doesn't consume ANY oil it will seize???

I think you're referring to the Toyota Vehicle Intrusion Protection (TVIP) system, which locks & unlocks the doors with a remote? If so, the Factory Service Manual shows the TVIP ECU as being up under the dash behind the right end of the instrument cluster. This is shown on page BE-95 of the FSM. If you don't have a copy of the FSM, a free .PDF version is available to download at:

Been there, done that, on my 2000 SR5.

It's a small gray box, about 4" square and an inch thick. It's a great deal of fun to get to.

Remove the lower panel of the dash, the one right in front of the driver's knees. Four screws hold it on, and two screws hold the hood release latch onto it.

Behind that panel is a duct for the air conditioning. Just pull and it comes out; it's held in by its shape and by fitting over the ducts at each end.

A second duct has to come out. This one is at the left end of the dash, and it extends from the left end of the duct you just removed, up to the A/C vent. It "hooks" onto a protrusion on the top of where it slips onto the vent, and there isn't much room to "unhook" it. The idea is to push it up, unhook it, and slide it out.

This exposes the box. It's held to the sheet metal at the left side of the cab, to the left of the duct that you just removed, by some very thick and sticky double-sided gooky stuff. Pull it slowly and it'll come loose. You'll have to do this, as the button you seek is recessed inside a hole on the forward-facing edge of this box. If I remember correctly, it's green in color.

When you get the box loose from the gooky stuff, you can get to the button and use it to teach the box about your new key fob. Make sure you test all your fobs thoroughly and that everything works, then put things back in reverse order. The gooky stuff is re-usable; just push the box hard onto it.

When you're done, you can spend the rest of the day cursing the blithering idiot who but the box there. As I noted, been there, done that.

Thanks for the reply's, I've been all up and under and can't see crap that resembles the alarm ECM. I'm going to go with DJ's instructions, this was factory installed so it sounds like something they'd do.
