1Gen-TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2000 to 2006 Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "2003-2004 Tundra: What warranty work have you had done?", within the 1Gen-Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
I just recently bought a 2003 Tundra Access Cab Limited 4x2 on my 40th birthday and so far love it. I was just wondering what warranty work anybody has had on thier Tundra? Thanks, zeeno
I've had my 03 Tundra since Oct. and now have 9,000 mi. The only things I've had to have done are 1) steering wheel had to be centered better and realigned 2) Driver's side window chattered when put down. Both were fixed fine but now the window is beginning to do it again. I havn't had anyting done to it since those 2 (at 1,000 mi.). Very happy with the Truck. -Jack
Just hit 4K on the truck and no sign of any problems. I'm about to take it in for full synth oil changeout. Once in a while I feel/hear a little vibration from the right front, but it's always on the same stretch of road. So, I figure it's the road. Very happy with truck. I'm hoping I'm just as happy with the dealer.
I see I'm not the only one with brake problems. I recently purchased a 2003 Limited Tundra- 9000k later my brakes were shaking like crazy. The dealer cut the rotors & 600 miles later I have the same problem. Being a new Tundra guy, does anybody have the facts on these brakes?? By the way- The tundra rocks, best truck I've ever driven. What about the dual exhaust. I'm hearing many different stories on power loss going to dual. Anybody have the answer on which system is best??
I've seen a ton of post about the brake TSB and was wondering what exactly the brake problem has been and what the symptoms are? I've noticed a slight pulsating feeling in the brake pedal. Thanks.

That would be it - but since you have a 03 you'll have to check the VIN break point since they began updating the 03 trucks fairly early on. You may or may not already have the updated parts.
The number one complaint is probably brake vibration from warped rotors or out of round drums. There is a TSB for both the front and rear - with the front being a much more involved repair.
I had the TSB done about 3 weeks ago and so far so good.

tundra s that are 03's built after oct 03 has the new upgraded hareware for those tundra before sept as an 03 mod year( the tundra has the old hardware ) check to see if your pad's have the logo "ls " with the new hardware not having that "ls" logo.there are a lot of 03 tundra with the old part's installed toyota i would guess toyo wanted to get raid of them and make a sell rather than have the phased in the new stuff.....

1) front end vibration (not fixed yet, waiting for SB)
2) temp control knob doesn't rotate fully
3) driver window loose, and rattles on bumps (super annoying)
I'm going to have my stepside box repainted next week courtesy of Toyota. The box, directly behind the cab, upwards toward the gas cap door looks as if it was sand-blasted after this past winter's harsh weather. The Toyota rep. also suggested installing running boards to prevent further damage (for dealer cost!).My stepside now has about 15,000 K. No other problems other than the water thin paint. The rep. said that was due to the lack of lead being added to the paint. Didn't they stop that some time ago?

tundra paint quality is nothing far from short my thunder gray was repaint too on the hood because the factory didnt shake there can prio to painting my tundra when it was built...I have to say the tundra paint in general is cheap and too thin being im used to better paint from my mother avalon and my brother solara .....i dont know where the supplier for toyota paint is but i dont thing it's ppg quality at all?....im not even sure if toyota uses ppg paints on the tundra but i know the glass on my tundra is ppg ..........

Lets not forget that hese Tundras are built here in the USA and the quality has suffered. I hate to say that I had a 2002 Tundra with a Hydraulic valve lifter seal go bad and vibrating brakes, then a 2003 Tundra with a bad cam sensor then the computer not to mention the dealers service department could not fix a bologna sandwich let alone my vehicle. They just hate warranty work. Toyota needs to go back to the old days when these things just ran and ran and ran.
Is there actually any hard evidence to support that quality has declined since the trucks have been made in the U.S.? or is it just anecdotal evidence.
One way to check would be to look at Consumer Reports reliability ratings for the T100 and compare them to the Tundra. You could do the same with the JD Powers initial quality survey.
That way you'd have some scientific data one way or the other, rather than just heresay and opinions etc.
