1Gen-TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2000 to 2006 Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "What is your Tundra's MPG averaging?", within the 1Gen-Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
Last week on my way to Vegas,
All Freeway from with a 300+ pinball machine in the bed with me and a 130lbs passenger doing a average of 75 mph I got 18.12 MPG this was at night so AC was needed.
Oh the reason i was going to Vegas was to go to a Pinball Party and the guy (Tim) that was hosting it was going to rebuild one of my machines....I have 6 .....and Tim has over 400 machines that were working and another 600+ that are needing restoration...There were over 300 people that attended the wednesday night "Fun Night"
I attached a picture: The building was about 50' x 100'
In the Picture I am playing a Elvira Scared Stiff machine.

Is that for real? You got 18.12 mpg with the AC on, at night? It's been real chilly at night out here in Vegas, I would think that it's the same there in S. Cali.

I have gotten 18mpg on several tanks, and 19 on a couple.
That is empty, and not towing...no mods. Do have fiberglass bed
cover, but don't know if that really helps or not.
Oh, forgot to mention that was mostly back roads and in the
mountains. This is much better than I expected and is the best
of any gas engine pickup I have had. Diesel Ram did get up to
23 mpg though...was a 3/4 ton 4x4, 5spd, 4.10 axles.
...to think about gas when I am having too much fun in my truck but I know I'm getting just as good of gas milege as the next happy Tundra owner
Oh, I'm still trying to figure out why Shell will only provide $35.00 worth of gas on my debit card... maybe other gas stations do it too... I have only been to Shells. Maybe I should attempt to get gas at another venue... we'll see.

It's not a particular company that does it; it's up to each dealership to program their pumps. This happened to me the last two trips to the gas station. Both happened to be Amoco/BP, but I've been to other Amoco/BP's without a problem. I've made a mental note not to return to the ones with the $35 limit. Since gas has gone up like it has they really need to get with the times. Especially with all the trucks on the road.

Thank you for the information I don't see what is keeping the people from reprogramming their pumps to provide a higher limit. Imagine owning a Suburban that holds 44 gallons. You'd have to go to two diff. gas stations to fill up!!! It's good to know it isn't just Shell that does that.
