1Gen-TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2000 to 2006 Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "~2005 Tundra Discussion Thread~", within the 1Gen-Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
The new style VVTI V8 increases HP to 282.
The automatics will all get the 5AT (5-spd automatic tranny) and the 5-spd manual tranny in the V6 will change to the 6MT - a 6-spd manual tranny. The V6 also ups HP to 245 and a 4.0 litre. (up from the 195 HP 3.4 litre).
The Limited color choices now include spectra blue mica (a color we see on the Spyders and Rav4's) - but we dropped the green. Therefore, the Limiteds are available now in white, phantom gray, black, salsa red, and spectra blue mica.
The SR5's are coming in white, silver sky, phantom gray, black, salsa red, desert sand, NEW timberland (dark green), bluesteel (grayish blue) and spectra blue mica - shiny dark blue. The "oak" interior changes to a taupe, and the other grays are still available. But, leather still remains a factory option in Limiteds in tan/taupe only. Not gray.
Style changes incluse new headlamp design, tail light changes, and there are new wheel designs for the 16" wheels: there are TWO new 16" alloy wheel styles: one for the stand-alone 16" alloys and completely different unique 16" wheel specific to the OFFROAD package.
There is an all new "combination meter", and NAV system is now available in all Doublecabs and in Limited model AccessCabs. And, the big news too is that there is now an available 60/40 split bench seat available in all Doublecabs!
Model changes are minimal, but there is a deletion of the 7818 model (the SR5 V8 longbed 4wd) and they have a couple new models... a base longbed V8 "work truck" and a 4WD version of that truck, complete with vinyl floors and a new non-split bench. That truck will also offer as *available option* a convenience package for power windows, power door locks, and mirrors.
That's what I have for now... stay tuned for specifics.
I'll start taking special orders for the 2005 order-builds at the start of August... I am in Southern CA so for the PERFECT built-for-you truck, you'd have to come out here for it or have it shipped. Consider the expense for this prior to contacting me.
Yay! Thanks for summing up / confirming all the info. I could have just looked through TUNDRAV8GEORGIAs 12 page thread... but I'm lazy. The new Tundras sound like they're gonna rock... but I still think it's gonna be awhile before I ditch my truck.

I think those are some great changes. How about standard LSD on all models? I dont think anyone would complain about paying $250 more for posi. Much better than paying $1000 to get it installed later. How much will the price be going up?
OTOH, I saw some magazine that said Tundra will get redesigned in 2005. What a load. Even in 2006, if theres a bigger engine, ONLY the 2005s will have VVTi? Odd. I gotta get me a 2005.
If I can get a 2WD 2005 SR5 DC with TO, LD, KE, JC, LF, RL options for about $22K, Im in.
isn't "i-force" a form of "VVT-I"? I apologize for not searching the threads and I am more than likely wrong comparing the two types, but I assumed "i-force" represented adjusting the timing at a certain rpm just like vvt-i does. Maybe I'm thinking crazy here.

I agree on the lazy part on my 12 page thread (geezz) plus the countless email's i receive about my information on the new tundra for 2005...THe 05 seem's very cool however i will not ditch mine either till i see a full redesign soon.. not enought key changes to make me reviewing changing my Tundra out plus i like the added benifit's of not having a 28k truck payment (as mine is payed off in full )

I'm gonna wait one more year, for the 2006, before I buy. If Toyota comes out with a 3/4 or 1 ton capable of towing a 10,000# fifth wheel, with a larger gas, or diesel motor, I'll be in touch. If not, then the local Chevy man will probably get a visit. I love my Tundra, but I am retiring and want to get on the road.
she missed one feature tire pressure warning monitor too of coarse i've had my information since 4/22/04 the date this information was released to the dealership sales level. I tend to be very resourceful on any key information on tundras ...

I'd be curious to know what the MPG improvements will be. between the VVT-I and the 5spd auto tranny, it may be fairly significant. Makes me wish I'd waited till '05 to buy my DC

With a power train like that in the current platform it’s going to give the HEMI and Titan trucks a run for their money and get better gas mileage too.

Will the rear bumpers on the limited still be painted?
Dianne,
Will the limited DC still have colored rear bumpers, or will you be able to get
a chrome rear bumper? And why can you not get factory leather in an SR5?
