Talking Just Drove an '05 Access Cab

First here's the story:

Engine & 5-speed Tranny are amazing improvements

Taillights are in the same shape(outside) as before but now look like DC (round red with turn and reverse lights up top)

Up front the only difference I saw was a new headlight with what looks like a small DRL towards the bottom by the grille

Gauges are not very different than before (smoother look)

.....heres the funny part....
I rode by this dealership and went to there back lot to see if they had an '05
Sure enough they had 1. I then road up (in my '04 DC) to the main building. The salesperson then attacked me so I say "you got any '05 Tundras yet" Nope, nope... Won't have any til september and there will be no major changes anyway... then I educated them to the fact that the engine tranny changed and they had one on the lot...I miss the old days when the Salesmen actually new what they where selling!

They do know what they are selling - 2004's. Got to clear the old stuff out.

Is this Beechmont by any chance?

It's a never ending... and EVER increasing... "truth"... at most dealerships in general, now-a-days! Yet... it "IS" a sad truth!

I too... long for the days when a saleman/woman "knew" what they were selling. Have you ever noticed... unless the salesperson is in some kind of management position... they RARELY seem to stay very long?! Seems almost like from one month to the next there are new faces everytime you walk in the door!

It's all about the MONEY now... PERIOD! Customer?... What's a customer?

Just like any other sales job, there's no money in it. Unless your pushing a lot of product, why put up with it.
I had just the opposite experience. My salesman was retired military and been selling Toyota's for 9 years. He was very knowledgable and low keyed. Not all hyped up like some folks who concentrate only on the commission.

Ditto! I hope it wasn't that much of a difference than the pre-05s

The 5-speed transmission is a work of art...It is so smooth and quick shifting.
The engine feels like it has so much more bottom end torque. I was a little leary of really getting on it since the salesman was with me and I did not want to hurt somebody elses new truck. I bought my '04 DC in February and was looking to get a Supercharger and found them to be on hold. Actually I would prefer to have this Engine (VVT) with the 5-speed auto over the 4-speed with a supercharged non VVT. The VVT engine has no lag and makes major torque early and the old 4-speed tranny seems to slip alot more than the 5-speed. I just can't wait to see the comparison of the '05 Tundra's with the other trucks on the market I think everyone will be surprised how capable the Tundra has become with this Engine/Tranny Upgrades.

Ahhhhh....that sounds like music! Now I just need to win the lotto. With such a nice upgrade, it makes me wonder what they got up their sleaves for the 2006 redesign. It must be cosmetics + hybrid.

Hmmm, well I would have preferred to hear you couldn't really tell a difference with the VVTi/5 spd. but no such luck!!

You can't feel VVTi working,it's cam phasing not a sudden change of cam profiles.

The drive train really feels that much better? This makes me want to test drive one now but I’m afraid if I do I’ll end up trading mine in on an 05 and I’ll get further into dept.

I'm in the same boat......was at the dealer today and was offered '04 Limited w/Leather, limited slip, and other minor add-ons for $28700.00.
MSRP was around $32-$33K.

But I said I'll sleep on it, hoping to find new updates on the "05 here on this board. Sounds like I should wait.

Any tips if that was a good enough price to purchase now or differences aren't that much to wait. I do need wheels asap though.
