i just read that toyota is drouping the tundra nameplate in favor of a new truck being intro in 2 to 3 years...the next tundra is getting a major change and will have 4 door(ive heard that before)......anybody know any nesw on this let us know?
A service manager at Toyota told me that Toyota was going to make a four door Tundra. But then again, what do dealers know anyway? I've learned more from this website
The 4 door (D-cab) is for real...The configuration will be 2/3rds Sequoia and 1/3 Tundra. The 4 doors are being taken directly from the Sequoia and bed will be shorten. Since the Sequoia has a 10" shorter wheelbase, this new cab fits on the Tundra frame.
Yeah, bummer. I knew a real crew cab with a real bed was too good to be true.
I agree that the mini-bed is totally worthless. What can you put
back there, a dog and a cooler maybe. Looks like I'll be looking at
the F*%# Crew Cab ... wish me luck!
As it sits, my Tundra JUST fits into the garage -- well, I do have one set of storage shelves in front, but here's the rub:
There's just not room in the average garage for a true four-door pickup, even with only a six foot bed.
So far, Toyota hasn't gotten into the giant pickup market. Not a bad idea, IMNSHO. They're probably about where they want to be, hitting on the fat part of the bat. They might move into the smaller markets later, but right now, I'm reminded of what some GM guy said about imports years ago: "They're selling a couple hundred thousand? Hell, we lose more than that in transit."
Tundras are great pickups, but they aren't yet selling millions of 'em. Kinda hard to compete in every market 'til you've reached some critical mass.

Here's what I don't get... I bought the Tundra not just for the Toyota reliability but because "it is a pickup!" I don't understand all the hubub about getting a "truck" with a tiny bed or complaining that you can't haul 10 sheets of 4x8 plywood in your SUV. Make up your mind...... Do you want a pickup or an SUV? Either is fine just quit trying to make it both.
I'm not sure how many people actually use their pickup like a pickup. It seems that the majority of people just have a daily driver with a bed. That is how I use mine most of the time. When I do use the bed it is nice to have all 6' of it behind the cab. But, honestly I could get by with a weenie small bed most of the time. I think that a double cab with a long bed would be too long for a lot of towns around the country. I have enough trouble with mine, an extra foot or two wouldn't help a bit.

I think that there should be some law when a pick-up bed is shorter than 6 foot (My 83 Toyota PU has a 7 foot bed and I wish my tundra was the same), that you have to call it a love seat, sofa or something, afterall it is called a bed where you put your camper shell. How can you camp with a 4 foot bed? My wife looked at one of those fords and said, what is that, a beer cooler on the back? Now if they made a pop up camper that went to the front of the windshield, it might be cool, but just what are you going to do with 4 feet? I just read that Dodge shortened its bed on their quad cab.

Anyways, I'm done ranting now....
took the words right out of my mouth. I have no interest in a tundra with a big cab and little bed. All the trucks on the market that have this are fugly, including the tacoma double cab. As much as I love tacomas (owned 3) I can't stand the double cab, it looks rediculus, like it can't make up it's mind if it wants to be a 4runner or a tacoma.
just my .02 cents that won't be going toward a 4-door tundra.

IF YOU HAD A CHOICE BETWEEN A TUNDRA AS IT IS, OR A FOUR DOOR CAB WITH A SIX FOOT BED MADE BY TOYOTA, I BET THAT MOST PEOPLE ON THIS SITE WOULD BE DRIVING A "SUPERTUNDRA" IF YOU WILL. THAT IS EVERYBODY WOULD WANT THE "BIG TRUCK".
i also wish to drive a tundra with a FULL size back seat. i use the rear of my sequoia ltd to haul camp and fishing and boating and shooting supplies around. i think toyota would continue to offer the reg truck bed because of the buyers. i have seen an image someone made and the truck looked great. why not sell them both.
The access cab is NOT going away, just adding option for 4 full size doors. If you don't like don't buy one.
Why settle on limited bed space. Get a 16 FT oversized bed. IE buy a a freaking trailer if your stuff is too big to fit in normal pickup bed. Plus you can carry heavier things.
