Default 2005 Tundra: What warranty work have you had done?

I am looking at the new Tundra because my friend has Toyotas and says nothing ever goes wrong. Seems like everyone has had major brake problems. Don't you think that the brakes are kind of important! Just so everyone knows TSB is the same as one of the big 3's Recalls. An $1800 brake replacement is major league. I guess you don't count it as a problem if you are still under warranty. Do you think they fixed the major brake fault on the new DC?

TSB is not the same as a "big three recall". A recall is mandated by the government when a major safety issue has been discovered. Apparently, the Tundra brake issue has not been a factor in accidents.

A TSB is issued by the manufacturer when they discover a problem that should be addressed during normal service or if the customer complains about it.
The government may or may not issue a recall on the same issue as a manufacturer's TSB.

Yes, the new DC is taken care of. All Tundras built after (about) the first week of October 2002 (last year) have the updated brake system.

Toyota's recall's are called Special Service Campaign's. There have been a total of 3 against the Tundra, all for the 2000 model year, none since.

As a point of reference AllData shows 52 TSB's against the 2001 V8 4x4 Ford F150 and 7 recalls. For the 2001 V8 4x4 Tundra they show 34 TSB's and NO recalls.

Default temp

Best truck I EVER owned. With my GM's I never had major items but tons of little ones that kept me going back to the dealer/shop, almost monthly.

Just had my Tundra in yesterday for it's annual inspection and they are going to replace the drivers seat cover as the side is cracking, replaced the drive belt because it squeeked and thats it....... Brakes have not been a problem what so ever, and I have the older style. (GM still has brake problems after 15K miles on their Silverados) Toyota.. Oh what a feeling

That's why I'm planning on getting an 05 DC

Default Not yet, but . . .

The only problem I've had since picking it up a month ago is the 'A' pillar windsheld seals, flap against the windshield when you drive. (Suprising as it may seem, it's quite anoying ) Of course I can't count the rock that got flicked up by a truck and broke the windshield yesterday.

Only one item for warranty when I get the plates.
30days, 3,100mi, lovin it!

Cool

Right of the lot the truck is keeping pulling to the right, so next day is on the shop for aligment adjustment. However, the dealer shop doesn't have a lift that is big enough for '05 DC model, so they have to outsource to one of the local tire shops near by. Now it's straight as an arrow.

Default Check Engine Light @ 4400 miles

I turned on my two month old 05 Dbl Cab Tundra tonight and the check engine light came on and has not gone off since. The engine seems to have a little more noise or similiar sensation, but it may be my imagination. Last night I filled up the tank with gas. It was not a cheap no name gas station.

Will bad gas cause the check engine light to come on? If so, how much damage can I do until the dealership opens Monday ( I am working Friday and Saturday and have to drive my vehicle)? Any other common reasons or known issues that might cause the engine light to come on. The manual only says see dealer.

Thanks in advance.

I have seen bad gas throw a check engine light but unless you put diesel in the tank I think you will be okay. Just take it in on Monday and let them run the check for the light.

Default Just a thought...

Did you get your gas cap on correctly? My buddy took his Tundra in cause the wife was complaining about the light...they put it on the machine to run the diagnostic and found a fuel system problem..then charged him 90 dollars to tell him she left the gas cap loose!

Worth a check?

Was the gas tanker filling the station while you were there? I haven't seen any major Toyota announcements for 2005 yet, but if it was bad gas then you might want to run to auto zone and buy some fuel system cleaner. For your next fill up.

I also know that on certain vehicles (04 Dodge Ram) specific instance, if the gas cap and pressure sensor isn't correct it will run for a while then kick up the check engine light.

Default You guys are scaring me...

My 95 4x4 had no problems at all over the 7 years I have owned it. I now read here that all Tundras seem to be plagued with the same problems! Even the new 05 DC, which is what I am getting! This worries me tremendously. My friend bought a Titan and with 10k miles has not had one tiny problem, shake, or squeak. Please tell me Im not making a mistake buying the DC. I too am annoyed to no end with squeaks and rattles, especially on a new car. I am foregoing the larger truck/tow capacity/engine of the Titan because of my perceived notion of Toyota quality. Maybe I should re-consider?

My 05 DC is quiet as a church mouse.....

I think it is a lot better the my 03 AC was, I don't think you'll be sorry. I hear there are other problems with the Titan's and the fuel mileage is really bad.

Toyota quality is very much there however I wouldn't suggest buying a first year truck from toyota sometimes it's just better off waiting till they get it right so as the saying goes "good thing happen to those who wait same applies on Tundra quality"..Overall my truck is smooth as my mom's Avalon and not one squeak or rattle to be found in the body and trim just the brakes were a pain in the ***.Nissan too is a ok truck still hate that fugly look however given the newness of the Titan i would wait till there problem's have been fixed..

MPg on all these truck's takes a hand's down Tundra isnt any different on mpg They all achieve between 14 and 16 mpg in city and highway 19 to 20mpg if your lucky but people who buy them allready know that..If mpg is your concern buy another ride to offset the mpg issue
