Let me clarify that this is just my opinion. I purchased the D-cab Tundra but was initially interested in the Titan. I looked at both and drove both several times. The Titan's interior is made with cheap material and doesn't feel that much faster than the new 282hp Tundra. All trucks have there problems but for me, I just read too many problems with the Titan (radio, rear end, etc). I do like the look of the Titan though. I mainly went with the Tundra because of realibility and the upscale interior. Another thing that bothered me was you can't really "build" the Titan the way you want it. You can order the Tundra anyway you want it. Leather was a "must have" for me, the only way to get it in a Titan was to get the top of the line truck and it comes standard with many features i did not want. But I think you'll be happy with either one of these trucks.
Even though I don't have either truck, I have owned both of their SUV counterparts(a 2004 Armada and now a 2005 Sequoia). In regards to quality and reliability, the Toyota is in another league compared to the Nissan. The interior in my Armada was cheap and had rattles galore. I had numerous problems with the check engine light, roof liner popping noises, transmission clunks, and most importantly, the brake rotors kept warping. I only had 10k miles when I had traded it for the Toyota back in December, and had the rotors replaced and resurfaced two times and the judder was returning when I traded it in. In my brief ownership of the Armada, I had over 20 warranty visits to the Nissan dealer and still had three issues that they weren't able to resolve. Another thing to consider is the difference in ride quality is really amazing. The toyota is A LOT smoother and quieter than the Nissan. Again, I had a 2004 and I've heard that the 2005 models are a lot better than the early 2004 models, but that's my experience with both vehicles. Hope it helps you in your decision.

I really shouldn't have a say in this because I don't own either, but the Titan's interior does look cheap/cheesy. I love the way the truck's exterior looks, and its power and features are great too. The problems it has are expected from a first production year truck (look at the new Taco's many problems people post on this board), and the rear end problem I heard was caused by people NOT breaking them in properly before towing (per owner's manual). The options availabilty DO suck because you have to buy their complete "packages" just to get the option(s) you want. For example, if you wanted a sunroof ($900) in a Crew Cab LE, you MUST get the DVD mobile theater package ($1450) AND the side air bag package ($1200). That blows!
One thing I like about the '05 Titan CC is that they added (more like copied ) a rear sliding window similar to the Tundra DC. The whole back window doesn't go down, but a good portion of it does.
As for the Tundra, I think that the interior feels dated. Don't get me wrong, I hate the whole "futuristic concept" look that other companies are aiming for (especially the new F150.. blah!), but the Tundra's interior has basically been the same for 6 years. (I'm assuming they're saving all their guns for the redesign that's coming up) The exterior looks are "whatevers" until you start putting the right aftermarket parts on them. I probably feel like this because I see sooooo many Tundras on the road everyday that the only one that catches my eye are the ones that are hopped up.
I looked at both in 04 here is my break down.
1. Engine/Drivetrain
2. Interior Looks
3. Exterior Looks
Toyota
1. 4.7 Plenty of power if you are not towing giant things. (Down side timing belt not chain.)
2. Interior dated but much better fit and finsh and classy looking. (Down side front buckets and floor not flat when folding up rear seats)
3. Just not into the square look always liked the rounder looks of the tundra.
Nissan
1. 5.6 Has a timing chain not a belt. Should be able to tow larger things then toyota. (Down side fuel mileage and new engine no history).
2. Flat floor when folding up back seats (Down side cheap & square. Poor fit and finish trim decals hanging off.)
3. Just don't like the square look also didn't like the box in the bed side.
But it all comes down to what your needs are. They both have advantages and dis advantages its just what you want and can live with.
Good luck and have fun shoping.
Hey Guys, let me be a little help here.... I was a dumb a$$ and went with the Titan, I just that it was a bad a$$ truck but boy was I wrong.... I purchased the Titan on December 10th 2004 SE King Cab Big Tow, Off road... Anyway with 1500 miles on it, my power steering fluid hose blew and drained all my power steering fluid... They repaired that while parts were ordered. About a month later and 2500 miles my truck went in for the following:
1) Brakes shaking so bad that I thought I was having a seizure(Been back twice for this and waiting for new rotors to come in for the 3rd time)
2) New power steering fluid hose
3) Fuel gauge quit working( been back twice for this)
4) Sprayed in bedliner turning white( No fix, Nissan has no clue)
5) Lots of interior rattles that they can't seem to fix
The Titan now has 3000 miles on it and I have been in the shop 3 times in less then 2 months for all of this stuff. Now this could be a isolated incident but I don't think it is. I think in 3 or 4 years Nissan will work the bugs out of this truck, in the meantime stick with the Tundra..... I am in the process of trying to lemon the truck... If anyone has questions please ask....
And my friend works at Nissan. He worked with me at Toyota and in the words of a Nissan employee and Technician " Go with the Tundra for sure" " these things are JUNK" I was told this when I was contemplating between the 2 just a month or 2 ago.

I test drove both and was initially impressed with the Titan. I think it felt roomier and I liked the seats/interior. The Tundra felt a bit dated but I still liked the interior however the weak point is the seats (I have cloth).
In terms of powertrain, lots of write ups on the power of the Titan but dont believe it. Instrumented these trucks have to be close in performance but what the numbers dont tell is how refined the powertrains feel. The Toyota is smoother than my last bmw 540. Noise vibration harshness the Toyota is isolation and quiet over rought roads and on the highway.
The only place the titan has an edge is in the bed utility functional options. I loved the load floor track option and would want that if the Tundra offered it.
When you hear the problems the Titans and Armadas are having dont forget one thing. The head of nissan Carlos Ghosn is known as a cost cutting genius who has put nissan back into the black. One of the problems with cost cutters is that the go to their supplies and demand 20 to 30 percent reductions. Suppliers are forced to drop their prices but they also subtly will lower their quality to give a manufacturer what they ask for.
Final note, get the vehicle stability control on your toyota especially if you have a lead foot like me. The VSC is a dream in the wet. VSC intervenes like an invisbile hand keeping the truck tracking on the correct line in the corners and has to be a major safety advance for full size trucks.
I have test drove both trucks. I bought an 05 Tundra Access cab 4x4 and was not planning to buy a Titan but was just curious about it. The Tundra feels smoother and more refined, quieter cab, smoother ride, more comfortable. The interior of the Titan seemed kind of cheap and cheesy. Features I DID like about the Titan were limited slip diff, in FRONT instead of just the rear, traction control, tiedown system in the box, and of course the extra torque. On my 05 Tundra with the VVTi it is a good engine with good power BUT I wish it had a little more torque at lower rpm for 4 wheeling. I find that when I am in deep dense snow the engine really has to work, even in 4 low, and I really have to step on it to go through the snow, yet at the rated HP and torque I feel it shouldn't have to work as hard. But it does go like a " Raped Ape " on the street It sometimes feels like this engine with the powerband the way it is would sometimes be more suited for a sports car than a truck. Also the Titan IS a heavier duty truck with more towing capacity IF you need it, I don't and the Tundra's capacity is more than enough for me.
Driving my D/C is like driving a Lexus with a pick up bed. Especially since I put the stock exhaust back on it. I'm at 10,000 miles WITH NO PROBLEMS. None. Zero!!!

Yepper! They sure do ride real niiiice!!!!
Although I drive an access cab, we both have '04's. (I like your truck's color )
I'm VERY happy to hear of ZERO problems! YEAH!!!!! WOOOOHOOOOO!!!!!!
In Canada the Titan is rated at 24 mpg highway, the Tundra rated at 23, Imperial gallons. I can't speak about the Titan but my Tundra does not get anywhere NEAR the rated mileage. I am only getting about 17 on the highway. But I also hear the Titans are not getting the rated milage either as are none of the domestic fullsize trucks.
Even without all the problems mentioned in the above posts, the Titan requires high-octane fuel. The Tundra (w/o the SC) runs on plain ole' 87 octane. With today's gas prices, I'll take the Tundra.

The Nissan Titan does not require premium fuel. Where did you read that?
I guess it's not too weird that someone on a Tundra forum would misquote fuel requirements on another brand of truck but what I don't understand is when members that own Tundra's state on this site that it requires premium fuel?? Don't they read their owners manuals before they post?
