1Gen-TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2000 to 2006 Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "Where are Tundra components made now?", within the 1Gen-Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
I've read a couple of other threads that talk about the engines being made in Indiana now (or just assembled? not sure). Can anyone provide a link to or list of where the Tundra's parts are being made for the '05 models?
I don't know if it's the same as the tacoma, but anyway here's an example.
Engine - TMMWV Toyota Motor Manufacturing West Virginia
Frame- Preassembled parts from Japan, welded together by DANA Corp. in Stockton, CA
Seats by Johnsons Control Inc
Catalytic converter and bed from TABC Toyota Auto Body Corp. in Long Beach, CA for now will move bed plant to TJ, Mexico. Thanks NAFTA
Various local suppliers.
Cab and console made in NUMMI.
Assembled in NUMMI Fremont, CA
Union made UAW 2244 (only union plant that makes toyota vehicle).
Oh yeah 2005 is contract year, will end this August.
And they will start building tacos in TJ, coincidence?
I hope so...
I used to work there as maintenance tech.

I think the Toyota 4.7L is still made in Japan, but I could be wrong. The Tundra is assembled in Indiana (says on the inside of the driver's door frame).
Check out this link....lots of info on Toyota facilities in North America. According to the site, the Tundra V8 Engines have been made in Huntsville, AL since 2003.
A couple days ago, my wife and I were tqaking a walk and ran into a snowbird fro Nebraska who winters here. My wife mentioned that I got rid of my 76 Blazer that's been in my driveway for 20 some years. He said he liked it a lot better than the Tundra there now. I asked how come and he said I shouldn't buy Japanese crap and should stay with GM. I told him my truck was made in Indiana. He said the parts came from Japan. I told him the Tundra has more American (US) made parts than GM uses. He then told me the profits go out of the country and he's worried about where this will all end. I told him the profits go to the stockholders and all companies stock are owned by global stock holders. Next he told me if I ever stood on the Arizona Memorial in Pearl Harbor, I wouldn't buy Japanese. I told him he'd have to get over this as I eventually did. I can actually remember (vaguely) the start of WWII. I also remember Super Bowl I lol. Sorry for the rant, but it's been on my mind for awhile. By the way, I go to the VA Hospital for prescriptions, and there are very few foreign built vehicles on the lots. I actually can empathise with the oldtimers feeling that way to a certain extant.

I have gone through his exact type scenario more times than I care to count. The funny thing about all this is the Tundra is about 95% USA made parts and 100% assembled in the USA. Not Ford, not Dodge and certainty not Chevy can make this claim. Heck, most GM trucks are made in Mexico or Canada anymore. Way to support the US economy GM!
