Has anyone as an owner gotten a notice from Toyota about their truck's lower ball joints? Or are we just supposed to take our trucks in?
Little confused as to what to do.

I think we just have to wait for the letters to be sent. They said they will send them as the parts become available, and the earlier models will get their letters sooner. It could be any time between now and December before everyone gets their letter.

Toyota Claims they will notify owners; Rumor is they are attempting to "round-up" the necessary parts nationwide!! to satisfy recall REAPAIRS!! Oh boy.
I am taking my truck in tomorrow and will see if they will do the recall because I have 35" tires. Is there anything that I sould look out for because I have the Daystar spacers and The 1" diff drop and the steering bushings upgrade. I am just afraid they might screw something up because their service sucks here doesn't matter where you go. Before this I had a 99 Tacoma that had the rear drive shaft replaced because it snapped. When I talked to the mechanic he said this wasn't the frist case he had seen. I agree that the reliability of Toyota has slipped and the next vehicle I purchase will probably not be another Toyota.
I did not get a letter. Just checked my VIN against the list and called my dealer last Tuesday. They agreed that my truck was part of the recall. They encouraged me to come in ASAP, as their inventory of part kits for the recall was pretty low and the parts were hard to come by. Hearing that news, I booked an appointment for Friday.
Took the truck in on Friday, got it back before the end of the day. So far, I can't tell any change in how it drives. Anyhow, the recall work is done...no fuss, no muss, and no cost.

Toyota also has very bad attitude in there dealership service deptment's Maybe I am just pickey but when I have one dealership named Marrietta Toyota that lied in my face about a repair done and wasn't handled correctly on Me being over charged on a warrenty repair I made certain I was getting my money back which I did after I complain to Toyota..It seem to me Toyota dealership's in the Atlanta area are very loose on how they conduct themselves in plublic and I for one dont take there S??T .They also dont care bother to reseach thing's out and we as the customer's know more about the product's then the people who sell them and work on them.Toyota really need's to focus on improvement made at dealership level because I am very much over them and I take my truck to an indenpendant shop because they know how to take care of there customer's and communicate to me as a person ..Quality control is very much slipping because ther service deptment's are rushed on there work and dont bother to care..I have complained to Toyota about my area because pretty much can be expected in a few dealerships around my area on crapey service..This recall is just another prime example on toyota quality slipping and since were at it might as well recall the brakes too since i know that is another area Tundra's are knowen for on problem's
I HEAR You!! The service sucks here in Massachuseets also(Cape Cod).
This will be my second recall since last year. Last year it was Honda.
I've learned something. I know we all get hyper to get the fix done, but I've learned to wait.
Why??? Because the dealer screw ups will happen on the first few they fix until they get into the grove of doing it. I'm sure the payout to the dealers from Toyota will be cheap. I doubt you'll find the master mechanic spending time on the recalls.
I plan to wait at least a month after I get the notice.
Otherwise, I'd ask them how many other Toyota's have they done the fix to. If they say "your the first", I'd say ooppps just got a call, I need to cancel that appointment.
Today I called the Toyota Customer Experience Center & found out my truck is part of the recall. They told me I didn't have to wait for the recall letter. They told me I could just go to my dealer and tell them I'm affected by the recall and then my dealer can verify this by checking my VIN #.
I called my dealer & they want me to stop by tomorrow (I guess to check my VIN # in person) and so they can order the parts. Hopefully, they'll get the parts in quickly & get it done.
The service tech at my dealer didn't sound too happy about the whole thing but that's his problem. Right away he asked if I had already received a recall letter but I explained to him I didn't need it according to Toyota. Sometimes they act like they're paying for the repair out of their own pocket or something.
If anyone else wants to check on their truck by calling you can reach the Toyota Customer Experience Center at: 1-800-331-4331 then from the automated menu choose options: 3, 2, 2, 4 Then you'll get to talk to a live person.

Great! Thanks for the number (oneslackr)... !

So I go the recall done yesterday and no problems. The service writer was a jerk though but the mechanic who worked on my truck was real nice. The mechanic who did the alignment had to adjust it a second time but did get it right with no questions or arguments. I wish the service writers were as nice as the mechanics.

Yea, I called them Toyota Customer Care, they informed me that it is more helpful to have the letter of recall because some customers have been complaining that they try to get their recall done and have to pay up front, then if they are indeed in the recall they will be reimbursed.?? Funny, but I asked if it was absolute, she could not say for sure that not having your letter would be a detriment. I get the feeling if you complain of shuddering or vibrations they advise you to go without it. But she also explained to me that since the dealers are separately owned and operated, then it is up to them how to respond to customers without letters. I was told the mailers should be reaching me soon, if not within another week I might have to insist to my local dealer. I have some towing to do second week in Aug so I don't need anything to break.
I stopped by my dealer yesterday & told them what Toyota Cust. Experience Center had said. One of the service writers said they could order the parts but it could take up to 3 weeks. He said they were repairing the vehicles first that had received recall letters. He didn't seem too happy that I didn't have a recall letter (like I was trying to rip them off or something).
The other guy who I actually dealt with thought what the 1st guy said was strange. He told me that he had already ordered the new parts for other customers & had received the parts quickly. Once again no one knows what the hell is going on. Or the first guy is a liar.
More than likely they aren't too happy with everyone coming in now asking about getting their trucks fixed. At least they ordered my parts & will call when they get them in. By then I'll have my recall letter (my truck is in the first group Toyota is targeting). That should make those clowns happy.
I don't understand the big deal that the dealers are having about not having a letter about the recall. There a list of VIN numbers of affected ball joints and to what I see if your truck fall within the affected VIN numbers then you get a fix. Easy, how do they figure you are trying to rip them off, I hate dealers, I am going in today with my truck, my VIN match a list I found on line but my truck is an 01. Oh well I'm off to battle my local friendly dealership. lol.
