WHA-HOOOOO!!! Looks like I'm one of the lucky ones, boys... er,umm... and girls ! My DC is NOT in the recall!!!

Just got off the phone with the Toyota Customer Experience Center; the guy looked up my VIN # and told me, my truck wasn't in the recall! THANK YOU GOD!!! Fact is, I'd already looked at the info in the PDF file contained in the first part of this thread, compared it with my VIN # (myself) and got the same results. But I wanted to hear it, from the SOURCE or the proverbial "horse's mouth" (if you will), before I breathed a sigh of releif. Now that I know, I can proceed with my Wheeler's coils install!

Still though, I can't help but feel for everyone "IN" this recall... it certainly "is" a headache, which I'm sure NONE of you really wanted. To that end, I wish you the VERY BEST at a speedy repair with LITTLE or NO hassle, from the dealership you choose to do the repair.

Default New recall for '05 Tundras

Just did a quick search on NHTSA's website and Toyota issued a recall on Tuesday for '05 Tundras with cloth captain chairs. Here's the description:

Make: TOYOTA
Model: TUNDRA
Type: PASSENGER CAR
Year: 2005
Recall Number: 05V328000
Summary:
CERTAIN PICKUP TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS AND OPTIONAL FABRIC FRONT CAPTAIN'S CHAIRS FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 208, 'OCCUPANT CRASH PROTECTION.' THESE VEHICLES WERE BUILT WITH AN INCORRECT FRONT PASSENGER OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM INDICATOR LIGHT LENS WHICH WILL NOT DISPLAY THE STATUS OF THE FRONT PASSENGER AIR BAG.
Consequence:
THESE VEHICLES DO NOT MEET THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE STANDARD.
Remedy:
DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE FRONT PASSENGER OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM INDICATOR LENS. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING LATE JULY 2005. OWNERS CAN CONTACT TOYOTA AT 1-800-331-4331.
Notes:
CUSTOMERS CAN ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION’S VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236; (TTY: 1-800-424-9153); OR GO TO HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV.

I got a call this morning from my dealer. They already received my new lower ball joints/parts. That was quick.

I'm taking my truck on Monday to get the recall work done. I still haven't received my recall letter. The guy at the TCEC was right about not needing it.

The service tech I dealt with at my dealer knew what he was talking about (regarding getting the parts quickly). His manager, who told me it would take 3-4 weeks to get the parts, was just being a jerk by trying to talk me out of getting the work done until I received my recall letter. Don't know what his problem was. But it's just that, his problem.

Don't let these dealers give you the run around, even if you don't have your letter yet. They can easily look up your VIN # to verify that you're affected by the recall.

That's odd! I put a heavy briefcase or small practice amp on my passenger front seat and the seatbelt light flashes! And supposedly, the occupant should weigh at least 70-80 lbs to sit in that seat, right?

It doesn't state what years does it? Mine's 4 yrs old already.

My 15 pound cd case will set off the warning light. I try to avoid setting anything but people in the seat.

Default Free Recall?

I went to the dealer near my house on Thu. Made an appointment for safety recall. The dealer set me up for Sat. to do the lower ball joint. I was so comfortable to hand the key to Toyota's trained technician to work on my Tundra. When I was at work I almost forgot to worry my truck. Pick up the truck and went home to check the new ball joint. Woo free new parts and labor. When I get up from the ground, I saw there is a penny big of dent on my driver side door. I was so depress about the first dent I had since I own my truck. Monday I have to pay Dentpro $89.00 to remove the dent. Truly, there is nothing free in American.

I take it the dealer didn't volunteer to take care of the damage?

I called Maita Toyota in Sacramento last Wednesday. They checked my VIN and confirmed that my truck was in the recall. I scheduled an appointment for the next day and dropped my truck off at 10:00am. I picked it up at 5:00pm. They did the suspension work and aligned all four wheels. No problems and the steering seems smoother after the work. I have been very happy with the service I have received from Maita.

I just called my dealer (Toyota City in Brooklyn Park, MN) and they said Toyota told them NOT to do the recall without the slip from Toyota, even though I just got off the phone with Toyota and they said it should be fine...

Off to find the alignment specs...

My dealer performed the recall work on my truck today and aligned it. No problems. The front end/steering feels firmer/tighter now. I'm happy with it. Not to mention now my steering wheel is straight again (last time Firestone aligned it they left the steering wheel at an angle. I hate that).

I took a good luck under my truck while it was up on the rack to make sure they actually replaced everything. Call me paranoid.

I still haven't received my recall letter. Oh well. I can just trash the letter if it ever arrives.

I dropped mine off this morning, I brought along DJ's alignment specs and they told me that only the toe adjustment is included in the recall??? Any thoughts on that?

Also, am I recalling correctly that DJ's specs are actually within Toyota's specs? Just more specific?

Thanks!
Mike

Default Anyone have the letter yet?

Unlike most of you I have replaced both upper and lower ball joints for right and left sides already (April 2004 & 2005). I need the letter to get reimbursed for the repair work done. Has anyone gotten the letter yet? Toyota HQ called me back on mine since I have sent letters of my own prior to the recall demanding re-imbursement, but they have advised me to submit my repair and rental car bills in with the letter when I get it. So I wait. Sure would be nice to hear that the letters are in the mail.

Drive safe.

Does anyone have any pictures of the parts they actually replace? Looking at mine last night after I got it home, it looks like it's just the plate with socket on it under the spindle that got replaced? Is that correct?

Thanks!
