Just got an e-mail reply from my service manager at the dealership. Found out my truck is indeed part of the recall. They want me to come in for an appointment next week. I plan to ask them for an appointment the week after next week so they can replace the recalled part. I plan to have my rotors resurfaced as there appears to be some runout on them evidenced by shaking of the front when braking.
I'm glad that Toyota's looking out for all of us even if it means poking them with a 10 foot pole.
Mine is in the shop as this post is being typed. Part is replaced now my truck is waiting its turn for the alignment.
After I explained to my dealer that I will be towing soon they had no problem giving me an appointment without the "letter". Dropped it off at 7:30am should be done by 12:30pm
Does anyone have any pictures of the parts they actually replace? Looking at mine last night after I got it home, it looks like it's just the plate with socket on it under the spindle that got replaced? Is that correct?
Thanks!
Mike

"your vehicle may experience excessive wear and looseness causing increased steering effort, reduced vehicle self-centering and noise in the front suspension."
No kidding!
I'm glad mine is scheduled for the 50J service the morning of 08/02/05 because it's getting worse by the day.
My Hellwig makes the steering problem real easy to experience. I must slow way down for every single turn.
The noise in the front suspension was the first thing I noticed...
Like Sanosuke, I'm getting the front brake wobble - again - maybe I can get another brake TSB done along with an oil change.

WHA-HOOOOO!!! Looks like I'm one of the lucky ones, boys... er,umm... and girls ! My DC is NOT in the recall!!!
Just got off the phone with the Toyota Customer Experience Center; the guy looked up my VIN # and told me, my truck wasn't in the recall! THANK YOU GOD!!! Fact is, I'd already looked at the info in the PDF file contained in the first part of this thread, compared it with my VIN # (myself) and got the same results. But I wanted to hear it, from the SOURCE or the proverbial "horse's mouth" (if you will), before I breathed a sigh of releif. Now that I know, I can proceed with my Wheeler's coils install!
Still though, I can't help but feel for everyone "IN" this recall... it certainly "is" a headache, which I'm sure NONE of you really wanted. To that end, I wish you the VERY BEST at a speedy repair with LITTLE or NO hassle, from the dealership you choose to do the repair.
Dave
I did the same thing you did by checking the PDF file and my VIN and my truck was not part of the recall. I also called Toyota Customer Experience Center just to make sure and after checking my VIN the guy stated I was not part of the recall. I'm sure glad that's out of the way, and here I was worrying and waiting for a recall letter like a fool . LOL................
Dave, post pics as soon as you get your lift on. Can't wait to see you truck lifted. PEACE!

So can I print out your letter of the sevice campaign (owner letter and be on my way to getting this done instead of waiting)
Is it different when people get this in the mail, I have service on my tuck for the rear brake vibration and I'm getting 2 new oxygen sensors on the passenger side, so can I fool them into beleiving this is it. My truck does fall under the repair procedure.

Its best if you just told them theres a recall from Toyota on the lower ball joints. They can locate this information and cross reference it with your truck's VIN and let you know if its is part of it. Thats how I did it for my service manager -- I e-mailed him and asked him to cross reference my truck and found out it was indeed part of the recall. They will most likely set an appointment for you once they have the ball joints in.
I just had the lower ball joints replaced on my 03 by the dealer. I didn't have the letter but told the service writer that I heard about the recall and that I was told to look into it asap. The sevice writer at KMT was great. They performed the work and I got it back yesterday. I haven't noticed any change though. Even so I'm glad its done.

I have been absent from ts.com for a little over a month, so I read all the new posts on the recall and failed to find any posts dealing with work done to modified suspensions. (i.e. spacers, ucas, coilovers, etc.) Is there anybody that has had work done to a modded front suspension?
Thanks

You can take your truck to the dealer to have them replace the lower ball joints and must likely the'll align the truck is best if you call and make and appoitment just to be sure they have the part on stock.
I'm taking mine in tomorrow (wedsday 8-3-05) at 8:00 in the morning. I called the service dept. today and gave them my vin, and they said Yep its affected. Set up an appointment at the aforementioned time. Hopefully I'll convince them that the brakes need the TSB done, since theres been vibration for about the past 9 months or so. The steering wheel doesn't vibrate back and forth, but the truck kind of bounces up and down when i brake, and feels like the brakes are pulsating. Not so much like the rotors are warped. which they might be. We'll see.

nothing new for a Tundra and I am pretty well used to this aspect on the truck even the Tsb fixed it somewhat but the problems come back either way i look at it pretty well A normal Tundra trait..I just did my brakes yesterday what a huge difference that made resurfaced routers and new pad's..
I saw a ticker tape type news bit that some toyota pickups and SUVs were going to be recalled. 750,000 for front steering problems?????????? oh no .....anyone have any info on this?
Just had my 2003 tundra v8 stepside in to my local dealer to have the lower ball joints changed.Made a huge difference to my truck rides like its new again. On my truck it almost felt like they changed the shocks not the ball joints. If you"ve had any tire problems this is the cure. My dads 03 limited goes in tommorrow and will see if it changes his truck. My advice get done asap.

are MY05 trucks affected? I've noticed a similar trait... Almost like my ABS is kicking in when it shouldn't.
