are MY05 trucks affected? I've noticed a similar trait... Almost like my ABS is kicking in when it shouldn't.
The Ball Joint Special Service Campaign is not. Special Service Campaign 50J (SSC 50J) 2001-2002 MY 4RUNNER, 2001-2004 MY TACOMA 4WD & PRERUNNER, 2002-2004 MY SEQUOIA & TUNDRA FRONT SUSPENSION LOWER BALL JOINT REPLACEMENT is applicable to 2002 - 2004 Tundra's only. Refer to SSC 50J in the Technical Service Bulletin Database
The Brake TSB mentioned is BR003-02 REAR BRAKE VIBRATION (REVISED) and BR004-02 FRONT BRAKE VIBRATION (REVISED) is applicable to 2000 - 2005 Tundras Before a specific VIN. Refer to BR003-02 and BR004-02 in the Technical Service Bulletin Database

Can a manufacturer be trusted to notify you or should all people affected go ahead and call? From the time I take it in, how long will it take to finish the repairs?
I had the Ball JOints replaced as mentioned. I thought it rode smoother (like new) after they did the work, but maybe it was just me expecting somthing different and wanting it to ride smoother.???
For the brakes, he said its out of warrenty and TSBs are only taken care of under warranty if the customer complains about it while its still under warranty.
I told him about the vibration and they checked out the brakes and he says "yep, rotors are definitly warped, plus its time for new pads."
Then hes like "yea thats pretty good mileage for brakes, especially on a tundra." i'm like "Eh?" 28,000 miles for brakes? c'mon.
Anywho, looks like i'll be doing a brake job soon, flushing fluid and what-not.
I also had a cupon for a $9.99 oil and filter change so i had that done too. Seems awfully cheap. Do they use recycled oil or somthing?
I'm going to have it changed again in 3000 miles as oposed to the regular 5000.
Other than that, it seems to ride well now. And, no mention about my 2.5" lift either.
I used to hear a "TINGK" on the right side front suspension when i'd hit a dip in the road, i don't know if its there anymore or not. i'll check back on that one.
I just had mine done yesterday....brought it in cuz I wanted my alignment checked (pulling a little) and they told me they had the parts for the recall. It took them about 4 hours total including the alignment and balancing of the tires. I can't say I feel a difference, but then again my '03 has only about 19K miles on it.
I have never received anything from Toyota which leads me to suspect that they do not have my correct address (even though I still live where I did when I bought it).

Please advise,

Per notification to the dealers:
"The owner notification (Phase 1) will commence in mid-July, 2005. Please note that 4Runner Owners will be contacted in greater number for this phase, consistent with the greater availability of 4Runner parts.
Owner letters will be mailed based upon part number and production date, starting with earlier production vehicles."

I just called my dealer, asked them to check my VIN for the recall, and they ordered the parts. They did tell me the parts were on back order initially, but then I got a call 3 days ago stating that they were in, so I take it in thursday to do the recall and a handful of little issues before my 3 years is up.
The issues are all TSB's and my dealer wasn't even aware of these! (the brake TSB, AC water valve, window rattle, etc). Funny thing too, I had my truck in for all of these things at one time or another, and never a mention of a TSB. Thank goodness for this site!

Suggest you go ahead and call and find out if your VIN is in the range covered by the recall. I emailed my service manager at the dealership and found out that indeed, my truck was covered by the recall. My service manager informed me it would take 3-5 hours to replace the LBJ with the new parts.
had mine done thursday..8/11. dealer also replaced my manifolds after hearing a """hissing noise""". all done under my 36/36. replaced my tires today with Goodyear Fortera SA. truck drives like new.
This Saturday I stopped by my dealer to ask if I was included in the ball joint recall. They said I wasn't. Any other 2003s hear the same news? I figured if they were recalling 2002-2004 I must be included.
Anyway, I emailed my VIN to another dealer to get their input since I didn't fully trust the first dealer.

Not all vehicles are affected. The "Technical Instructions for Special Service Campaign 50J" document in the TSB database list the VDS and Serial number for those that are affected. For help deciphering your VIN, see INFO: VIN Breakdown

The other dealer said I was included in the ball joint recall Maybe I need a 3rd opinion... My truck has 33k miles, the recall is free no matter how many miles, right?
