I do all my oil changes myself and it would be easier to just pay
$23 at the dealer, but i like the quality time with the truck.
On my Civic i went to the dealer for it and it was a 45 min wait on sat,
so i went and did it myself that will be the last, i had to lift it to
get the filter out what a pain, from now on it's the dealers job.
I don't like it that much.
I mean, taking your truck to a dealer for an oil change? C'mon. Drop it off and/or wait long periods of time for something you can do yourself in 5 minutes?

I have the 02 and the lower ball joint passenger side failed on me April 2006. I never received the recall and neither did my friend, the original owner. When it happens the the tire will fold up against the fender causing a loss of control, and possibly a loss of bladder control! Luckily I was only going about 25 mph in residential area, I had just gotten off the freeway doing 70 mph. According to the Toyota the recall was in effect as of May 2005. So it makes me wonder why we weren't contacted. I had towed to a local shop and was informed of the recall. I told them to take it to the dealership, and Toyota paid for the towing fees. Everything was repaired free of charge. When the joint failed it caused other driveline parts to fall out along with thier fluids. There was also damage to the fender. They did give it top priority and the mechanical parts were repaired the next day, the fender/flare work took 2 days. Warning Symptoms:
It will feel as if you blown a shock, the effected side will be noticably lower than the other. Then you will notice a loss of alignment, it will wander to one side and then the other.
When it happens my advise would be to pull over immediately and have it towed to the dealership. There is no way to predict total failure, the next thing that happens will be your tire folding against the fender and your truck scraping the street. My truck was driven about 15 miles before total failure.
I spoke to the service manager and he said all one has to do is call the local dealership with the VIN# and they will let you know if your truck is affected with the recall, then fix it immediately.
I just got my recall letter last week, I will make my appointment this week to get it done. I have an 03 AC V6 Tundra, hope it won't go before I get it done!
I had my recall work done the week following Christmas last year. My Mom, with a horrendously bad back, drove my truck to the dealership for me as I was home fighting mononucleosis. Not fun for either one of us.
Now, after getting that done and the truck aligned perfectly, I'm seriously looking at leveling the front of my truck with a two inch lift in the front which, by design, requires another alignment. Fun.

UPDATE: I sent my VIN # to Toyota Corp USA and asked them about this recall, since I was not the owner at the time... Good word is, my truck was indeed taken care for that specific problem...

In July of 2005, Toyota recalled approx. 790,000 vehicles due to a ball joint in the front suspension breaking, causing drivers to lose control. Toyota only recalled vehicles manufactured prior to Sept. 30, 2003. The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration is now investigating 95,000 Tundras built after that date due to 4 additional reports of faulty ball joints.
Last Sunday, my brother in law lost control of his 2004 Toyota Tundra when the ball joint failed. My nephew was in the car. They were lucky, no one was hurt. They were only two houses from home, and only going about 10 miles per hour. A few minutes later and the situation could have been much worse.
Toyota is refusing to fix the truck, stating that the vehicle id number for his truck is "not covered by the recall" and that "the problem was fixed before your vehicle was manufactured". Yet their own mechanic told my brother in law it was the same problem as the vehicles that were recalled.
Anyone driving one of these 95,000 trucks could be in danger and Toyota is refusing to do anything. Their customer service center told my brother in law that "Only the government can mandate a recall" and that "unless there is a recall, there isn't anything we can do to help you."
They know there is a problem and they simply don't care. The shareholders' profits are apparently more important than the lives of their customers. If you have one of these trucks, do yourself and your family a favor and have the ball joints checked out! Even if Toyota tells you that your truck isn't affected by the defect. They aren't being upfront with their customers on this!
This really isn't a big deal. This makes the driver have to steer the vehicle harder. I would much rather have this than having my truck catch on fire(Ford ) or having the brakes fail (GM ) besides Toyotas quality is still the best.
There is a much bigger risk here than difficult steering. Loss of control of the vehicle can cause serious injury or death. I think I'd call that a big deal!
Truck still clunks, Now what
I was under the impression that the balljoint was making this klunk clunk sound, almost like a snapping sound down low when the truck goes over some bumps or I touch the gas pedal from 5-15 mph to get it moving and this ound comes up, sounds worse after having the replacement, more noticable and more often it will happen , I personally am SICK of this truck, its been to the dealership for everything and I mean everything, anyone else have this problem of klunking,
Really who wants to pay some $30,000 for a klunker, I don't
So who wants to tell me its something else? I know its the balljoint, and dealerships can't do anything right, everytime I'm always the one who ends up being the one who is RIGHT
also is the recall supposed to have a grease pack below as some did before, I have seen pics of these on older toyotas and now non;, the upgraded one doesn't need one.
