Then a friend of mine called and said something about a recall that I never received a notice for and on here its about the lower ball joint. I asked the service guy and he asked if I had the recall letter and I said I was told to have him cross reference my vin number and he called back saying that there was no OPEN recalls. So now I am a little freaked out. My question is, was there once a recall on my truck that I was never informed of and now its to late and second, what can I do about it now? I know that after 30K I def need new brakes but did they wear down like that on there own or from help with the lower ball joint causing my front end to shake and cause the brakes to be affected. I need some help please. I want to march in there and be like look. I never received a notice. Nobody called me and if something goes wrong I am hiring a lawyer. What should or even can I do. Thanks...Amber

Campaigns applicable to the 2004 Tundra
LSC 40J NAVIGATION SYSTEM DVD SOFTWARE UPDATE
In November, 2004, Toyota will initiate a Limited Service Campaign (LSC) to replace the Map Database DVD (DVD) on certain 2004 and early 2005 vehicles equipped with the optional Generation 4 Navigation System.
In recent months, Toyota has received reports of localized anomalies in the map details of the vehicle’s Navigation System. Although by nature map databases may contain a certain degree of inaccuracy, a noticeable decline in the precision of the map data was observed when directly compared to the 2003 model year (Generation 3) Toyota Navigation system. In addition, these anomalies tended to be concentrated in particular areas.
The owner notification will commence in mid-November, 2004, consistent with DVD availability. This Limited Service Campaign will be available at no cost to the vehicle owners until December 31, 2005.
SSC 50E CERTAIN 2004 THROUGH EARLY 2005 MODEL YEAR TUNDRA WITH BOTH VSC AND TRD DUAL EXHAUST SYSTEM
Toyota will initiate a Special Service Campaign to replace the TRD Dual Exhaust System, on certain 2004 through early 2005 model year Tundra vehicles equipped with both Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and a TRD Dual Exhaust System.
The Accessory TRD Dual Exhaust System was added as an available option for all model Tundra’s. The TRD Dual Exhaust System met all clearance specifications on models with the standard equipment package. The 2004 through 2005 models offered VSC as an available factory option, which includes an additional brake line which was not previously present. When the TRD Dual Exhaust System was added to vehicles with the VSC option, the driver’s side exhaust pipe no longer met the clearance specifications with the additional brake hose. Vehicles not equipped with VSC do not have this extra brake hose. The location of the TRD driver’s side exhaust pipe placed it in a position where in rare cases contact between the brake line and the exhaust pipe might occur. In this condition, the exhaust pipe flange may rub against the right rear brake hose which could cause brake fluid leakage. This may lead to an increase of vehicle stopping distance and thus raise the possibility of an accident.
The owner notification will commence in late April, 2005.
Please note that not all vehicles in the VIN range are affected by this SSC. If you are contacted by an owner of an involved vehicle, who has not yet received a notification, please verify eligibility by confirming through Dealer Daily/TIS prior to performing repairs. Dealers should perform the inspection and if necessary repairs as outlined in the attached Technical Instructions.
SSC 50J FRONT SUSPENSION LOWER BALL JOINT
As announced in May, 2005, Toyota will initiate a Special Service Campaign in several phases to replace the Front Suspension Lower Ball Joints on certain 2001 – 2002 4Runner, 2001 – mid-2004 Tacoma 4WD and PreRunner, 2002 – early 2004 Sequoia and Tundra vehicles. This notification is being sent to advise you of the launch of Phase 1 of this campaign. Each subsequent phase will be launched consistent with parts availability.
On certain 2001 – 2002 Model Year 4Runner, 2001 – mid-2004 Model Year Tacoma 4WD and PreRunner, and 2002 – early 2004 Model Year Sequoia and Tundra vehicles, there is a possibility that the Front Suspension Lower Ball Joint may experience excessive wear and looseness causing increased steering effort, reduced vehicle self-centering, and noise in the front suspension. If the vehicle is continued to be operated in this condition, in extreme cases, the lower ball joint may separate from the knuckle causing a loss of vehicle steering control.
The owner notification (Phase 1) will commence in mid-July, 2005. Owner letters will be mailed based upon part number and production date, starting with earlier production vehicles.
Please note that not all vehicles in the VIN range are affected by this SSC. Please verify eligibility by confirming through Dealer Daily/TIS prior to performing repairs.
You can contact the Toyota Customer Experience Center at 1-888-270-9371 Monday through Friday, 5:00 am to 9:30 pm, Saturday and Sunday 7:00 am through 3:00 pm Pacific Standard Time, with your VIN to see if these are applicable to your vehicle.
