I called and emailed my dealer this morning hoping someone gets back to me asap. as of now the 2 pieces are bolted and welded together. only trail fix we could think of. so if they cover it. they will have to replace my spindle and lower bj. i dont think they are going to want to mess with the ORS manual hub conversion or the uniball upper....so i may just be screwed...

With all the mods you have to the front end, they'll probably try and blame it on the TC setup.
I thought from Propaks pictures that it was the upper BJ that failed....
Can we confirm if it's the uppers or lowers? Or did I miss a post?

Toyota Corp said this recall hasnt even been issued yet.Wait until Early June. Maybe I can help sway them into recalling the '00 as well
oh yeah and everyone thats had a problem should be calling that 800 # to make sure this gets fixed the right way,
question the tundra from 2000 to present still have the same layout up front how does one get on the recall list and certain tundra's arn't affected? Makes no since to me knowing very well not much has changed up there ....
From what I gather those affected were due to either the ball joint supplier or the assembly process being used at the time the affected trucks were put together. A "scratch" was being put on the ball joint.

What bothers me a little bit is that the same part that is used on the full-size Tundra is also used on the much smaller & lighter Taco. This makes me wonder if the ball-joints are not just Tacoma parts that the engineers decided would work in the Tundra with an "acceptable" reduction in reserve strength (which maybe is proving not to be so acceptable?)

Most of the Tundra is from the Tacoma, just widened or lengthened. Although we have updated front brakes (which suck anyway) pretty much the rest of the truck with the exception of the engine is from all have 95-100% Tacoma DNA. They strengthened and lenghthened where appropriate; but whatever engineering decision led to the creation of the 'full size' Tundra was probably a bargain for Toyota. Hopefully, the front suspension finds it's way back into the parts bin before the 2006 model. If they ever want to know how to build a Tundra, all they have to do is ask here...Many guys have built them successfully in their garages and driveways, replacing the failure prone parts with better axles, diffs, brakes etc. The only thing I still love about my Tundra after 5 years of ownership is the motor--the rest will eventually suffer a slow and painful death at the behest of an angle grinder.

Alignment is not affected by the balljoints, unless the balljoint comes popping off and your rig looks like Propak's.

you have a few point's in the 5 year's ive had my truck I can tell you what weakness this tundra has and what I would like to see changed out..The Tundra is an ok truck however seem's in 2000 I would have liked to see better advancment's on the part bin and part's not used from the tacoma lineup brakes for one being a major drawback on this truck and weak setup at that

So what changed from the 2001 models to the 2002 that prompted the defect? In other words, if my 2001 has the same parts, isn't there a similar risk? Seems like this would be important to know.
