1Gen-TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2000 to 2006 Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "Transmission oil stick?", within the 1Gen-Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
I just purchased a Toyota DC Tundra 2005. I’ve been looking for the transmission oil stick, but have not been able to find it. Can anyone tell me where it is?

There isn't one. The ATF level gauge (dip-stick) has been discontinued, and the ATF inspection method and the oil level inspection method have been changed. This mechanism consists of a refill plug, overflow plug, ATF temperature sensor No.2, and A/T OIL TEMP temperature warning light

So, there is no physical way of checking AT oil level other than relying on the sensor?
When the AT is at operating temperature you can check the level by removing the overflow plug. If ATF overflows, ATF level is higher than specification.
If ATF does not overflow, ATF level is equal to or lower than specification. In this case:
1. Remove the refill plug.
2. Add ATF through the refill hole until it flows out from the overflow hole. Fluid type: Toyota genuine ATF WS
3. When the draining ATF has become a trickle, install the overflow plug with a new gasket.
NOTE: The capacity of the overflow tube is approximately 3 cc. If the amount of drained ATF is little, only the fluid remaining in the tube has drained out. This condition is not considered as ”overflow”.

My question is what if we want to change the fluid? Do we change the trans filter every time. and when we drain it does any one know how much should come out and how much we should put back in??
The tranny is sealed and can not be checked. I don't like the fact I can't check mine either. I plan to have mine flushed prior to what Toyota recommends.

You can if you want, you need to remove the pan to clean the strainer. You need to refill with use Toyota Genuine ATF WS.
Dry fill - 10.4 liters (11.0 US qts, 9.2 lmp qts)
Drain and refill - 3.0 liters (3.2 US qts, 2.6 lmp qts)

nhparrot, just a suggestion: you may want to add D14351 also. i think they will understand a lot about the fluid level after seeing it. answers a lot of questions. yspert

MYs '00 thru '04 have the fliud dipstick. It is located on the passenger side of the engine near the rear cylinder; identifiable by its red handle. This is also where new fluid is added.

Excellent, thanks for the clarification! I'm going to get this done soon. I have 82k and no knowledge that it has ever been changed or flushed.
