I just bought a 2005 Tundra AC 4x4 and am disappointed with the owner's manual. It devotes half the pages to the seat belts but nothing about routine maintenance help. I guess we're not supposed to do any of that stuff but I intend to. I have a 96 Acura which has a great manual even showing how to replace the differential fluid, etc. I guess I have to get an aftermarket service manual. Anyone have any suggestions for a good one? I intend to run this forever so I can spend some $ on it.
I looked in it for the serpentine belt answer to a post awhile back and it doesn't even mention belts (that I saw anyway).

The Haynes repair manual for the Tundra and Sequoia is only about $15, but covers only 2000-2002 models. It is useful, though, and contains wiring diagrams for those years. It is small enough to carry in the truck, and would be useful for anybody who wants to do routine maintenance.
I mention its size because Toyota's official repair manuals for the 2005 Tundra are four large volumes, over 5000 pages in all, and not really something you'd want to take everywhere with you. The whole set costs $474 from Toyota, but you can probably find them on ebay for less if you are patient.
They are spectacular manuals. I've never seen anything like them. Be aware that they are written for mechanics with some experience, and sometimes skip over really simple things. However, if you ever need to debug one of the Tundra's many electronic circuits or do any major repairs yourself, they could be worth their weight in gold.
Volume 1 covers routine maintenance, specifications, and then has almost 1500 pages of diagnostic procedures, many of which assume that you have a digital multimeter and an extended OBD-II scanner. Volume 2 has another 1500 pages of diagnostic procedures, followed by engine and emission control repair procedures. Volume 3 consists entirely of repair procedures for transmissions, brakes, body, and everything else. Then there is a fourth manual -- the Tundra Electrical Wiring Diagram Manual.
However, TundraSolutions provides a lot of maintenance and electrical wiring information in its Knowledgebases and Tech Solutions sections, which are free to subscribers. It's possible that this would be all you need!
Thanks for the info. I also own a 76 Blazer 4x so I do get my hands dirty. $475 is out for now so I guess it's Haynes. I also just tried a locking gas cap from Auto Zone but chickened out when I saw the threads instead of lugs on it.

Don't overlook the vast amount of maintenance and repair info available right here on TundraSolutions, in the Knowledgebases and Solutions sections. There are a lot of pages from the Toyota Repair Manuals, and a lot of other stuff besides. I found that info to be worth a lot to me!
Becareful with aftermarket BOOKS. Yes, even the TOYOTA manuals have wrong info. I know. BUT....
The HAYNES and Chilton books show the wrong V8 firing order. HERE
#1 Cylinder on a V8 is on the drivers side front, they show it to be the passenger side, THAT IS WRONG.
Just a FYI

I agree with the above. Also a little too often they repeat the statement: "This repair is beyond the scope of this manual and should be referred to a qualified mechanic".

ok, I was concerned and got my book out with a pencil in hand to change it. It shows:
This isn't the same info as the thread you linked to, did they correct themselves?

Must have. I personnaly dont use those books, so I cant say for sure.
Just passing info along, since that thread was last week.
I heard that same problem many times before.
Is your Chilton or Haynes?
His was Chilton.
I hope they corrected it and you got a GOOD VERSION.

+ 1 on that. I've always purchased the manuals (factory or aftermarket) for my vehicles, but I never felt I had to for my Tundra since any information I need is right here on TS.
