1Gen-TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2000 to 2006 Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled ""8 years later" 2000 Tundra owners post here", within the 1Gen-Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
I enjoyed my baby for 5+ years and 102,730miles...the usual run of the gammit, plus a front end re-build do to poor stock spidey gears (fixed with lockers) and a bunch of seal changes as it sat for 12 months while I was in Korea. Ummm, other than some minor mods relative to others, this truck was the best I'd ever owned...I miss it!! Still got $15K for it at the dealership, but a personal sale would've been best. Oh well. Times change.
Maybe in a few years I'll pick up a new tundra when time, $$, and the desire allow

AHHHH, you traded it?!?!?!? I'll likely be buried in mine after all the money I spent on it...
Upgrades: PA 3" Body Lift, Powertrax No-Slip rear, Detroit ezLocker front, Fabtech/Fox front, Wheeler's AALs, TC Front Diff Drop, 16 x 8 MB Wheels, 285/75R16 Goodyear Wrangler MT/Rs, Pioneer Head Unit, Infiniti Reference speakers [front and rear], 150 W bridged amp to bandpass enclosure, 6 CD changer with IR remote, iPod mini and xm hardwired into stereo, Toyota drop in bedliner, and Tonneau cover
On second set of front pads and second set of front O2 sensors. Other than that - it's awesome! Great investment for me. Just looked up resale value and it's worth between $13,500 and $15,000. That's awesome compared to the value of the domestics I've had with less mileage.
Five years and 145,000 miles later, whats your upside and downside of your truck? My downside happens to be my brake problems. Upside is the quiet ride and lack of rattles. I still LOVE my truck. How about you?
I have just over 43k. No TSB on brakes, second set of pads, 2nd set of tires. Only major complaint is the cracked exhaust manifold. Learned about that after the warranty was out. So will replace with headers. Other than that a fine depedable truck.

I have 67,537 miles on it now. It's on its second set of tires (Michelin, of course) because the original BFG's were defective, and I had the trailer brake light controller and the dipstick replaced under recall. Other than that, it's had NOTHING but routine maintenance and decent treatment.
It's head and shoulders above its competition. I've lived in the city, the mountains, and back in the city; I've hauled groceries, dead animals, and tractors; I've driven from -26 to +105 degrees; I've driven on perfect pavement, mud, gravel, sand, rain, and very deep snow; I've driven 925 miles at a stretch; and I've NEVER been disappointed by it.
As I noted on another thread, the Toyota truck I replaced it with is still going strong at 194,xxx miles, so this one is barely broken in. I'm keepin' it.
Mine has 38,200 miles now.Had left window regulator, timing belt & water pump replaced under warranty. Rear window lock & antenna replaced at my expense.Second set of tires, everything else is orginal. Short distance driving mileage is 15-16 mpg. Highway is 18-to 19 depending on the weight of the drivers foot.
Had a new 99 5.3 Chevy that had a low speed harmonic vibration that GM couldn't fix & they bought it back. Bought the Tundra to replace it & wouldn't trade it for any GM ,MoPar or Ford!!
Some Toyota dealerships might not be perfect but try dealing with GM on a buy back! Makes Toyota look like saints!!!
191,000 miles on my 2000. Replaced the front rotors with drilled ones and no more shimmy and shake for 70,000 miles now. I got 103,000 miles from the Michilen tires that came on it. I love it. Charles
A little over 82K on it now. I had the brake TSB done, trailer brake light controller and dipstick repaired/ replaced, and both exhaust manifolds replaced all under warranty. Had the brakes checked for remaining life last weekend... 8/32nds left. I absolutely love this truck ! I'm looking for 200k+ out of her!
AHHHH, you traded it?!?!?!? I'll likely be buried in mine after all the money I spent on it...
Yep...hated to see 'er go. COuldn't bare to see it as a daily highway driver with no rocks, hills, or time to hit any of those even if I wanted to.
The 45 mile round-trips were killing me on the gas, and it's been raining or 90+ degrees with 98% humidity since I've been here so the bike is no good.
It really sucked to give her up, but man what a ride she was traded in for.
I won't be climbing the trails with this one, but point A to point B happens a HECK of a lot faster!! Maybe a few down the road...in a different time and place I'll pick up a Tundra again and go mod-nutty. We'll see.
Peace!!!

Just got mine about a month ago, 117,000 miles. Had new Michelin ltx AT tires on it, synthetic fluids in front/rear diff's and in the transfer case, trans fluid changed, Tbelt and h2o pump was done at 70k due to leaky pump.
I have brake shake, and what I suspect is a cracked manifold on the drivers side, or some other exhaust leak.
Paint is great, leather is good, nice and clean. Can't complain for the price I paid.
2000 Toyota Tundra Limited TRD 4x4- Purchased last August with 55,000. Now have 67,000. I have the brake shake if I get on the brakes really hard, and I have just started noticing the cracked manifold. I do need new tires, but that is just part of routine maintinence. ( Ok, it is part of the trucks fault due to all the power, I can't help but smoke them every now and then) Seriously though, I was going to sell this truck back in January to get a BMW M3. I ended up buying the M3, got rearended and totaled in the M3 4 days later. I was glad I had not sold the truck yet. I bought another M3, planning to sell the truck. The m3 bent a valve and is in the process of getting fixed. As soon as it is fixed the M3 is going up for sale, and I am going to keep the truck till it is dead. Very reliable, fast truck, that can handle some abuse. I am starting to get a harder shift into second, but it still feels like it will last much longer. The engine is awesome, the oil still looks clean after 5,000!!
Still a great truck! Had manifolds/front brakes replaced under warranty. Timing belt and water pump/belt, plugs and oil change normal maintenance. Thing drives great still! The Serpentine belt replacement fixed a squealing I'd been having lately when she was cold. I use it mostly for commuting 52 miles/day round trip, and towing my boat. I've got a clanking in my front brakes since I last swapped them out that I've got to look at. I'm about to get my 3rd set of tires later this summer. She's good for another 100,000 easily! She's still as tight as when I bought her on 1/7/2000.
