1Gen-TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2000 to 2006 Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled ""8 years later" 2000 Tundra owners post here", within the 1Gen-Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
Five years and 145,000 miles later, whats your upside and downside of your truck? My downside happens to be my brake problems. Upside is the quiet ride and lack of rattles. I still LOVE my truck. How about you?
94k on mine, I just cant seem to get either a good alignment, or a good balancing on my tires, I get some what of a vibration. Also, I think I am starting to get transmission problem, a hard shift going to 2nd at high rpms. other than that, my brakes are fixed and everything else is going great!

Slightly over 40,000 on mine. My wife and I commute in our Camry. Yesterday, I had a Magnaflow muffler and Belltech 6700 lowering shackles installed. I haven't had much time to appreciate the mods yet but looking forward to its the new stance and sound!! The installer was surprised it's a '00--He thought it was an '04. Wheels could be next. Thanks to all who gave their opinions on various aftermarket exhaust systems and leveling suggestions!
96K and still going strong. No major disappointments with the truck. Some of my black metal trim pieces loosing paint lately. (drivers and passenger side windows) That has always happened on all my Toyota trucks though.
Everyday I drive my truck I say to myself at least once, "God I love my Truck!"
I've just turned 52,400 on it, not very many for 5 yrs old. Only change the oil every 5-6 months. Only thing I've done is replace the front brake shoes at 48,000. No other problems.
Great truck. Paint still excellant, 4x4 still good. Think I might go ahead and get all the fluids changed the next time around (trans, diffs and radiator)
I have ~19k and it is still new and strong. I changed whatever I did not like.
Upgraded brakes/rotors, interior, console, OEM manifolds with dreaded crack, shocks, etc. Added TRD LSD and the Helwig bar, among other things. My ride only sees the road 2X per year, due to my assignment in Mex, so it certainly will not get worn out at this pace Looking forward to a visit home soon to play again with the Toy!

I have 104k on mine now. Runs like a champ. Just finished installing JBA Headers, Hellwig Sway Bar and a 1 1/2" front spacer lift for leveling. I love this thing. My 16 year old son has been hounding me to get a new truck so I can "GIVE" him this one. Yeah right.
Where is that guy that has like 270k on his Tundra? Thats a good vehicle.

despite the fact the Tundra is now 5 year's old and aging fast without a compleate redesign and or minor treak's hear and there for example the new vvti upgrades for 2005 it's a ok match for those insisting on Toyotas proven track record on lasting a long time but for those of us like me who have had the tundra since brand new I am somewhat tired of the present truck and seek a change sooner or later.
My truck presently has 120 K on miles now(started off with 5) and so far my grip session has been brakes ,poor paint job when new, lack of finding good honest toyota dealerships (seem's this is an industry wide problem) and a poor shock setup mainly the leaft springs from the factory which seem's like an ok deal.Beyond that my truck is smooth quiet inside and we have a great group in my area of other tundra owner like me who share the intrest t hear's a picture of this weekend's southeast meet http://www.tundrasolutions.com/photo...0/ppuser/23941

Great truck. Only 22,000. TRD supercharger, TRD single exhaust, TRD limited slip, Hellwig sway bar, S&S long tube header with the y-pipe, Snug top cover. Had all the brake upgrades from Toyota. My work takes me out of town alot so my truck is parked in my garage much of it's life. Love the truck but might sell to get a '05 Mustang or a SVT Cobra. Very difficult decision.
78K on mine, and still running strong. I'm not putting as many miles on as I used to since my workplace is now only 3.5 miles away, but the truck is still running great, and I've had no real problems. I have some tweaks and upgrades in the works, but that's just for fun.

Reason: typo on mileage.
131k here. Typical front brake problems. On my 3rd set of rotors.
Dreaded starter died last year at 100k. Did the timing belt/water pump also as scheduled maintinance. Other then that, just oil changes and one tune-up. On my 4th set of tires.
A rattle or two here and there. Truck is more then I expected. Still runs and drives great.
Alot of those miles are stop and go across town driving and also pulling a 14' enclosed box trailer. Also alot of four wheeling.
I plan on trading for a New Tundra next year. Diesel I hope.
5yrs, 103k, 4th set of tires and 20 oil changes later it's still towing beautifully. I tow about 75% of those miles. Everytime I hop in and drive, it feels great to have such dependable truck. Starts every time, still runs like new, gotta love it.
Problems I ran into during this time was the shaking around 60-70mph and it still does it, alignments never cured the fr tire tread wear pattern, some creaks and rattles depending on temperature changes, some pinging, and my most disappointing problem was tranny failure at 67k which cost me alittle over $3k.
I'm driving this thing to the ground before buying another one.

73K miles on mine. I've gone through two sets of stock exhaust manifolds, battery, starter, alternator, wiring harnesses, brake vibration problems and the biggest of them all, a transmission. Replaced that at about 72K miles. Mods, exhaust, line-x, aem intake, bumpers front and back, sliders, Hella lights, and the best of all, SAS!!! Prior to sas, I started out with the Daystar lift, then the crappy Truckn coilovers, then the Teamwest SAWS.

73,000 miles and I'm very happy with my truck .
So far the seat has a tear above the electric controls,3rd set of tires,I did every oil change around 4-5,000 miles and so far the only thing I really had to replace was the front brake pads.I put new wheel on it(by choice) and for some reason my brakes seems to be pretty good no TBS on my truck.
All in all I love my truck and would buy it again in a heartbeat
My truck is very quiet still and looks great when I get around to cleaning it
now that it's basically paid for I can now start doing some mods New headers and exhaust is 1st on my list
108,000 miles, looking and running good till a couple weeks ago. I had the gooseneck flatbed hooked up and went to load a big skid steer, just got the skid steer to the back of the trailer and the neck popped off the ball and the skid steer plowed the trailer into the back of my cab and box. Tailgate, back box corners, and back of cab are slightly deformed now.
I had the usual brake, exhaust manifold problems, and my transfer case has been replaced. All done under warranty, no problems since.
