1Gen-TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2000 to 2006 Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "2002 Tundra owners how is yours holding up?", within the 1Gen-Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
I have about 39,400 miles on mine now. It turned 3 years old in March. I'm still on the original BFG Rugged Trails with tread left (though they'll need to be replaced within the next 5000 miles or so), original brakes (no brake issues), no squeaks/rattles, no window problems. The only issue I have is with the lousy paint that gets damaged way too easily, but that's old news.
The only thing I've had to do is rountine maintenance (though my dealer gives free oil changes for the life of the vehicle, so that saves a few bucks). Oh yeah & now the lower ball joint recall work needs to be done. Otherwise, its been a great truck.
I'd like to hear from other 2002 owners to see if you've had the same experiences.
As a side note: If you haven't already checked on your truck regarding the recall you can call Toyota Customer Experience Center at: 1-800-331-4331 then choose options 3, 2, 2, 4, from the menu to get to a live person. They told me I don't need to wait for the recall letter to get the work done.
Traded my 02 AC TRD 2 weeks ago for a 05 DC TRD. Had 89k miles. No rattles, no squeaks, no problems. Original brakes. It was in perfect shape. Ran Moble1, changed oil every 5k or so.
Well... mine's an '03, but with 120k on it, I'll chime in.
Front pads at 40k and 80k. 80k change was to Wheeler's E-911 pads. They're still over 50% now with 40k on them.
I replaced the timing belt and water pump at 105k (recommended at 90k).
New tires at 40k and 110k.
That's all.

Mine is just a bit over 3 years old now and has 150K miles on it. No problems and on the second set of tires and one front end alignment. Also, great mileage, 20 mpg in town and 22 on the road @ 75 mph plus. I got my moneys worth out of this truck.

I bought my V8 AC in May of 2002 and I have had absolutely no problems with the truck. I voluntarily brought it in to have the brakes replaced since it was free and beat buying new pads. I drive my truck kind of hard someties but it hasn't skipped a beat and I have 26 payments left. So far so good. I will buy another Tundra in 2008 when it's entered the next gen for a year or two.

Squeaky leaf pack replaced (R) - Warranty
...
I have just over 37K on the truck now.
Interesting that you were able to get squeaky leaf packs replaced under warranty. Mine squeak terribly and the dealer wouldn't give them a second thought.
Thanks for the replies. Good to hear that some of you are in the 100K - 200k mileage range & haven't had any major issues. I hope mine makes it that long with no major repairs. I plan on driving it until it self destructs, hopefully many years from now.
Reading through the list of TSBs you guys listed I forgot that mine did also have the O2 sensors replaced under warranty. That was such a minor issue that I had forgotten about it.

I got lucky and my service tech is super nice.
He did take a little heat when they realized my squeaky windows
and rear drum break TSB's were done after my trucks 3rd birthday.

Mine's getting ready to roll over 90k, most highway miles. My brakes are shot -- I've got some Brembos on order from tire rack. When I first got the truck my cupholder rattled, and the dealer fixed it. That was it. I'm going to get the timing belt changed in the next 2000 miles.
My transmission doesn't shift *quite* as well as it used to, but it doesn't shift bad, and always returns to normal after a good flush.
I do a lot of interstate driving, so my hood and grill are beat all to hell with rock chips stuff. Other than that small annoyance, it's been a great truck.
My 02' works hard every day and has never let me down at 48,000.
I'ts had the brake repair and is scheduled for the ball joint tsb. I won't get into the bumber/whole vehichle paint thing though.... lol.
What sold me on Toyota..... my previous truck was an 84 Tacoma that I bought new that lasted 19yrs. with 265,000mi.. The ole' 22reEFI was still hummin' with no smoke and the A/C was still cold.(Amazing!)
