Wow, this is the worst thread ever but that said, many good points in a lot of areas have been made.

I would not advocate fast driving and agree with all the comments pointing to common sense and responsibility but there are times when speeds get steeper...

I've taken my DC to 107 and it seemed to run fine, I think at that point the tires just really are not safe and that is what holds the Tundra back, and the limiter too. Of course if you need to make evasive manuevers at high speeds it's not happening but if a piece of lumber is on the highway and I have to hit it there is no way a Mustang is safer than a Tundra. I'll sit up high with more clearance on that one every time and take my chances.

So what is the breakdown on limiters by year: 00-04 it is at 107 and 05 is 103?

Oh and has anyone brought up the point that by lowering the top speed it might help with insurance rates because you do have less bone heads going 107 if you can't go 107. Maybe were all benefiting inadvertantly because of the limiters. Talk about a glass half full kind of comment.

A good website to visit is wreckedexotics.com and look at some autobahn crashes. They're are wonderful, involves lots of death by stupidity, unbeleivable crash scenes when sometimes you survive in a crash at 110 mph and your car is split in two wrapped around a tree, you didn't wear a seatbelt, you're alive and are walking away from the accident.

PLUS just lots of good carnage and a wake up call of to what can happen, but what we don't like to believe can happen. Its up to you to look.

I drive fast and like it but somedays you cant sight everyones actions into what moves they are going to make. I've been passed at 110 when I'm going 60 minding my business and thinking of "What am I going to do today" and planning this out in my head when some D@#ck flew by me and really it scared me for the first time because I was introduced into the world of how others feel when I pass them like that (was wondering what it was like and I guess I was shown how) I really didn't like it. I'm 23 and the other guy was probably the same and I'll tell you I wanted to get out of my truck and smash his head in a that time because my day was going great until I felt I was abruptly interupted by his behavior when I was asking for a simple minded day. I still got that day once I shrugged it all off, but it took awhile to let it go.

So your going 60 mph, not paying attention and you want to blame the other guy because he startled you?

Are you saying you never saw his vehicle closing on yours in your mirrors?

You allowed your mind to drift away from the #1 task at hand and your vehicle could have easily driffted into his path.
YOU could have easily caused a terrible accident.

If an accident did happen you and others would quickly blame the other guy but it would have been your fault.

Wake up and pay attention!

Just when I thought that this thread had reached the pinnacle of absurdity...

If one guy is doing 60 and another is doing 110...Somehow the guy doing 60 could have easily caused a terrible accident.

That's the stupidest thing I have ever heard.

And if he had swerved to avoid an animal or someone cutting out from a driveway, then who's fault would be be? Of course, the guy pulling out of the driveway, but it really wouldn't matter, because if you were doing 110 and hit him when he was going 60, you would be just as dead.

Anything higher than 15mph above "the flow of traffic" is simply stupid.
Even when states like Nevada and Montana had no formal speed limits, they still had the basic speed law, and you could have been cited for doing 110 in the vicinity of other vehicles moving much slower.
No, they had no FORMAL speed limits... the speed limit was on the books as "Reasonable and Prudent"

All I can say is that I'm glad that you live in Georgia.

As long as you know the limitations of both you and your vehicle just apply COMMON SENSE.

Question: How would you regulate people with little or no common sence?
The term "common sense" is an overused cliche. It does not exist. Ask 20 people what common sense means to them, and get 20 different answers. You call that common? Read this thread, at 10 plus pages of posts, and tell me everyone has a "common" view.

Anyway, laws are meant to cater to the lowest common (there's that word again) denominator.

I guess we just don't know him well. And I guess his "common sense" is not common to me. As long as he doesn't rear-end me at 110mph. Because I'll only be able to muster 103 in my '05, and only have 5 mph bumpers.....

Georgia type driving is a little different vs La California..The California method of traffic flow from Cal trans is a very good flow because the overall road's are better built and managed vs Georgia whos Traffic flow seem's to be very much regulated to one lane road's with a very poor method of design and planning. If your ever in this state My advice to you is watch out for some crazy driver's who merge into your lane and tailgating has been a really big issue in the state for a wile I cant tell you the number of times ive seen road rage in this area vs My home land of California (take in mind I am not used to heavy city atlanta traffic too) but the real problem with the State of Georgia is lack of planning for the growth we have experienced in the last 10 year's. The Southeast has been gaining a lot of new ground to cover with no room for improvement due to lack of state funding ..

I'm glad a Georgian mentioned the drivers in Georgia. I've traveled across the state on route 20 twice in the last 4 years and I've never seen drivers squeeze in to a line of traffic waiting to pass slower moving trucks. This time at least I could see beyond the bumper of the vehicle in front of me and not give em room. All-in-all, I like driving in Dixie because there are always people driving faster and more reckless than I do. We were going through a work zone and all the traffic was going the same speed (around 15mph over the limit). A cop pulled out and I said I wonder how he'll decide who to pull over? He later pulled over a guy who had cut in and was driving a little worse than the rest of us.
You're right about Cal drivers also. They drive very fast but pretty skillfully imo.
Arizona drivers suck. There are too many different kinds of drivers here ranging from retired midwestern farmers to illegal aliens.
Hope I didn't get too far OT but what the heck.

I don't know, I like going fast. In fact, I got pulled over for passing on the right in the dirt past a dump truck with a half covered load blowing all over. Happened right where the cop could see it all. Could've gotten two BIG tickets, but the nice understanding Tucson Police Officer let me off with a verbal warning. He understood why I did it, but later up the road I got a chunk of what the dump truck was hauling blasted into my windshield, causing a HUGE chip. GRRRR! I guess Karma got me.
