What things to do for new vehicle? (optimum value)
OK. I know things like keep up with maintenance schedule and keep oil change documentation and use seat covers, but I am sure I am missing something.
I just recently realized that you have to "season" or allow brakes to break-in.
What other things do I need to keep in mind so my new vehicle maintains optimum value and what can I do to keep new vehicle running and looking good other than the obvious.
OK, that I did NOT know. Do you mean all forms of seat covers? If no seat covers-do you scotchguard or something similiar?

I recently took delivery of an 05' SR5 TRD. This is my second Tundra as I sold my 03' recently. On both vehicles (and any others I get new) I did the following: Immediately scotched guarded the seats (cloth interior). Used 3M ScotchGuard and applied it myself. No problems--let dry overnight--vacuum and you can't tell it was done. After a couple of weeks of ownership I waxed it with Klasse Glaze. At 1000 miles I changed the oil to synthetic (Mobil 1-10W/30W as I live in a hot climate). I now have 2200 miles on it an just drive and enjoy!

Throw away those seat covers. Enjoy your new seats. Why preserve them for the next owner? On a freezing cold day warm up the engine for a minute or 2. Use only 5w 30 oil as in your manual. Buy extended warranty? It just might pay off? Don't ever loan your car out to anyone. When possible, avoid taking on passangers in your car. If you have an accident they'll sue you. Keep your car well waxed. Nu Finish polish seems to do the job. If you have a convertable avoid saturating the top with heavy soap & water. It will dilute the chemical coating put on at the factory. See your manual. Always carry a spare key. Don't park next to old beat up cars. Coal miner
Re: What things to do for new vehicle? (optimum value)
The best thing you can do for optimum resale value is- don't drive it.
Don't sweat it. Enjoy your new truck. All you need to do is perform regular maintenance, keep all maintenance records, and take good care of your car (i.e. don't smoke in it, wash/wax it regularly, don't wear dirty clothes in it, etc). If you do all this, you'll get better than average resale value. Not that many people keep all their maintenance records. You'd be surprised how many vehicles with 70k miles and above look like ****. As long as yours is in good condition for the mileage, you'll be good.
Going the extra mile with seat covers, dashmats, etc etc etc isn't going to add any value in the end. These trucks also don't need synthetic oil. As long as you change your oil and filter every 5k miles, you'll be fine, and you won't notice any difference between synthetic and non-synth oil. The 4.7 engine isn't a Ferrari V12, it'll run many many reliable miles on regular oil.

Re: What things to do for new vehicle? (optimum value)
I would put it up on blocks in my garage, cover it and only remove the cover when ready to sell, best way I can think of. Or u can throwit in 4x4 find some mud and giver and take a few thousand less.
Re: What things to do for new vehicle? (optimum value)
I guess I agree about the seat covers except that they can save a major scrape or puncture - I have a nice hole in my leather seat because I forgot to take a screwdriver out of my back pocket - my own dumb fault.
Interior condition seems to make a huge difference in resale. My biggest rule is NO EATING IN MY TRUCK!!! and only soda bottles with screw top lids and the lids are always on. I don't drink coffee so it's easy for me.
Keep the carpet clean all the time, use 303 protectant on everything, and avoid double sided tape to mount things.
And drive it like you stole it. It is a GREAT rig!!
Re: What things to do for new vehicle? (optimum value)
Well,
This is pretty obvious to me but may not be to others. I take very good care of my new vehicles. Cold, Hot, Warm, Cool, I always let the engine warm up for at least a min before I put it in gear.
Also I keep my mph with in reason. I dont do 100 mph with a new engine. I read some where once that with the newer vehicles you didn't need to "break" them in like you use to do, but I still do. Would rahter be safe than sorry.
Have seen to many used vehicles get bougt and then are not worth the ink to type a complaint about them because people tend to treat new vehicles just like that...its new so it can take it.
