I often wonder about the TSB.

How do larger pads fix the warping problem in both Tundras and Sequoias?

Land Cruiser 80 has smaller pads (than D812) but does not seem to have warping problem that I know of.

You should print a copy of BR004-02 and take this in to them or call the customer service rep back and say, hey there is a fix I have it here on paper why can't you guys do it.
Toyota has come up with this fix so the dealer has a way to take care of your complaint, It just doesn't make sense that they haven't used it.
Mike

They DID do the TSB. Why do you think that I'm so frustrated. Nothing seems to be working.

It has been in 5 times. The last time I was told that the Factory Rep had the 'magic' fix, and that he would be doing it personally. A lie! He wasn't even in town.

All that they did was to turn the rotors and de glaze the pads.

They told me that they were going to do something different, but they did the same 'ol thing.

Sorry Fireslayer, I think I misunderstood. For some reason I thought you were after them to do the TBS. I thought this was the magic "fix" that the rep was promising you.
I was told that this TBS works most of the time. So, now you need to look at where your at with this. You said they just turn the rotors again. Looking back, I think you meant to say they got the runout down from 6 to 1 thousandth and this is very good. What they didn't tell you is where you are as far as rotor thickness. Minimum thickness is 1.024" new is 1.102". At a minimum, .020" -.030" will be removed each time they cut your rotors. This means if they have cut your rotors three time since they were new, they are now most likely trash.
Now depending on how much was actually cut off, they could be under specs by one or two cuts. If they are under specs they can warp almost as soon as they heat up again.
This is something that now need to be looked at. Then there are the other possible causes, like rear brakes not working for one reason or another, or an ABS problem.
I can tell you what I would look at if I were fixing your truck, but I can't tell you how to get these guys at your dealership to get off their behinds and dig a little deeper.
I do know some shops in Reno, if you want to get an impendent shop to look at this I can help you find someone.

I appreciate hearing your comments. I do believe that this is the third time that my rotors have been turned by the dealer. It would seem that they are more likely to warp because of the thickness (or should I say the lack of thickness).
It is frustrating when they keep doing the same ol thing, and tell me to come in because they want to try something different, then they don't.

I have ordered the arbitration papers, but I'm not so sure that I'll fill them out. The customer service rep told me that if I win, they will buy my truck back, but don't expect to get what I paid for the truck. They will give me "low" book. Then he said "Hey we have to pay the light bill".
Well If they win, that is the same thing that will happen. They will give me (and any other person that walks in the door) Low Blue Book.

I don't see how I can win, if the end result is the same thing.
My rotors warped in 5,000 miles, now they are thinner. How long will it take this time?

I don't like the idea of going where I need to go the next time. The only person that will win are the people that I don't really like any more than a car dealer. (nothing personal to you lawyers out there). It just seems like everyone is out for themselves.

I still believe if the only real complaint with your truck is brakes you are better off getting it fixed even if you have to fork out some money yourself. You could have someone else measure your rotors. If they are under minimum specs now, they are obligated to replace them for no charge. They won't last long if they are close to or under.
Your other choice it purchase aftermarket rotors and pads as some here have done. Do it yourself or have someone do it for you.
Arbitration is good for dealer and not so good for you. As they told you, you will lose money on the buy back. For the dealer, the truck does not get labeled as a lemon and they can sell it off to someone else for a profit. (that's business)
I don't know if you have any grounds for a lemon complaint. I do know the dealers don't like this. In many state the title will then be marked as a lemon and of course this makes it hard to sell.
I would be more than happy to help you in any way I can if you decide to fix it. If I could I'd look at it for you.
Mike

Default Brake Problems

I am on my fifth set of rotors and pads. The problem started at 5,000 miles. I now have 45,000 miles on the truck. The pads and rotors were last replaced at 43,600 miles. They have paid for all of the repairs so far. The last time I had to fight with them a little. I am now seeking legal advice. I told this to my salesman and he had the manager of the dealership call me. He mentioned something about buying the vehicle back. He said that he will get back to me to discuss the situation further. The truck is paid off and I do not want to start again with large car payments to get a new truck. I will have to wait and see what they offer me for my truck.

I'm dying to hear how this turns out!

Brakes issues..

It's sort of intresting after having the first gen Tundra (My totalled 2000) Tundra which had it's fair share of issues on the brakes this newer Tundra I drive Now is a vast Improvement ...The problem's are within the brakes themselves used on the 00 to 02 Tundra...The 03 plus have a redesigned Brake's layout which provides a better brake pedel feel with Less Vibe's coming from the wheel. My advice is try to work on Toyota on providing you an aneswer and stop putting in pad after pad..

My Toyota Dealership is going to Love me now Since I got another New Tundra under warrenty coarse they allway's hated me since I know about Tsb and bring it to there attention (pay back is a Bit??) but a well informed customer is a joy to have

Erik,
What do you have now an 04? Someone in another thread said you had a 06???
I'll tell you my only complaint with the brakes on my 01 is pedal feel. The brakes seem over sensitive. I thought this would improve when I went through the front brake, but once the pads were seated it seems about the same. I not keen on over sensitive brakes in snow an ice.
Is this something that you noticed on yours? You mention the pedal feel is much better.

I was going to get an New 06 Tundra at first But I didn't want to spend close to 28k out the door so I found another used Tundra with 15k on miles for an 04 in perfect condition just like new and saved $$$$ .

Over sensitive brakes were very much a comman trait on my NEW 2000 Tundra and I didn't like the feel coming to a stop from a hill the abs in rain would act all mushey and give vibes In my Opinion...I havent tested My 04 Tundra but i'll say this it feel's a wole lot better vs the 00 to 02 layout coarse I sort of knew when shopping that I was getting an 03 up to stay away from Brakes issues....
