1Gen-TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2000 to 2006 Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "Recommended Mods", within the 1Gen-Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
Ken,
I will get a dyno done with the headers, but it costed me 250.00
to have the headers installed(Canadian) therefore it would cost me with gaskets etc....well you get the picture. At least we'll know what kind of HP a stock access cab 4x4 produces with no mods other than the JBA'S and mobil 1 synthetic. Tires are the stock p265/70/r16's with 50% tread left.
I'll get the thing done next week mabe Monday morning.
I'll post the results then. I have a digital camera and will take a pic of everything they give me.
You'll find some posts in this forum where folks have claimed more power and better idle from spending $50 on spark plugs (muahaaahaaahaa). I think the best mods spent are in the suspension, audio system and the rear bench mod. KLS has it right when craving horsepower. There isn't much bang for the buck and you'll sacrifice low end power as well as the ability to listen to your radio at a nominal volume.... just my $0.02.
My next mod is the swaybar, followed by new tires and then if available the supercharger. I crave HP, the best bang for the 3500 bucks is of course the soon to be released S/C.
Well, I put a Flowmaster and duals on mine, but mostly because I know what a V-8 is supposed to sound like. The horsepower in the stock V-8 is more than enough, and certainly wouldn't expect mileage to go UP when I'm mashin' DOWN the gas just to hear those duals.
It took two minutes to turn off those pesky DRLs (Daytime Running Lights). Just separate one of the two grey connectors (I don't remember which one) between the battery and the fender.
Removing the emblems and the TRD decal cleaned up the lines a bit. The emblems came off with a hair dryer and a few bucks for goo remover. The decals can be removed with a stripe remover, available for $20 or so from any auto body supply store.
Even though the bed comes with four tie-down hooks, I've found adding four more in the stake pockets is downright handy. Bull Ring makes some with a background that matches the bed rails. Since the little covers Toyota supplies look like they'd blow away with the first strong wind, that was a good addition
It cost me a couple hundred bucks for the automatic mirror with the compass and outside temp gage. Took a while to wire it up and snake a wire to connect the sensor to the mirror, too. Now that it's done, I like it a lot more than I thought I would. I think it was money well spent.
I never liked the stock grille, but was a little hesitant to cut it up. Turned out to be no big deal, and the Stull billet grille really looks nice. Seems like I've been traveling more than I've been home so far this year, but now I hope to get to the bottom of the hum that starts about 70 mph. My grille was an older design, and I don't think the new ones have the problem. If you buy a Stull, just make sure yours is made from "C" channel stock, not solid billets.

I'm a newbe. What is the rear bench and map light mod you guys are talking about? Does anyone else have a drivers side window that rattles when about 4-6 inches down? I've taken it back to the dealer twice and they still cant figure it out.
I have a 2002 TRD silver sky with very few mods. PIAA extreme whites in head and fogs. PIAA wiper blades and a snug top SS wrap rail shell. I also have a line X UTR liner which was done flawlessly. The guy removed bed bolts and tie downs.

Welcome aboard. The seat mod involves changing the angle and map light involves removing the metal plate barrier. You can learn all about these mods and many more in Lon's Garage. You may want to consider joining as a TS supporter, which gives you access to all of this information. For only $12, the information on how to's is great. See link in my sig for details on subscribing. Good Luck.

A REAL truck.
Install a ball mount in the hitch receiver. I will deter idiots from whacking your rear bumper, especially in the parking lot!
ive always left mine in, but luckily it has never had to be used like that before, but thats mostly why i leave it in

I just got my 06 DC limited too. So far I tinted the hell outta my windows, ordered the VSC subwoofer. LINEX my bed, thats a great mod. washed and waxed my baby. and I am looking to get a leveling kit too. I have seen some one you got the 2.5 and there is a 3 in kit. is there a difference. I don't put stuff in the bed much except I ride and race road motorbikes. So when I am going to the track I don't wanna look like dragging A$$. I was going to get air intake and exhaust, but after reading a bunch of stuff, i am going not to get that stuff. Cuz after spending my $$$ i might lose MPG might not be a good idea.
