Default Gas and Milage

Gas here is up to 3.05 a gallon! In the last three days it has gone from 2.69 all the wat to 3.05! Whats the deal?! On a good note though so far I've gotten 170 miles out of half a tank using the 2200 rpm guideline!!

I have been following a 2000rpm guideline for my current tank. That means I can't drive any faster than 59 mph The results are looking promising ,but I won't make any predictions because I don't want to jinx the results. With gas prices as high as they are I can't believe I am so excited about my next fillup.

I filled up last night and found that using my rule I was able to get 20.55 mpg!

what do you mean by guideline?

You are trying not to go over 2000 rpm's?

It is just a way to imporve your gas mileage. Yep, I have started to stay under 2000-2100 rpms 99% of the time to keep my gas mileage high.

I can take two ways to work. One is the interstate at 75 MPH the whole way, so keeping it under 2000 RPM is out of the question. The other is backroads with stop signs and stop lights with a speed limit of 45 MPH (so I'd do 50 MPH). Is it better off to make one fast run at 75 MPH, or go 45 MPH with 4-5 stops along the way? Right now I'm averaging 14.5-15.5 MPG and I've been checking each tank since I bought the truck in March.

I was on the freeway today and trying to keep the truck under 2000 rpm's. I got to 70 MPH and still at or under 2k rpm's. I can live with this if it saves gas

Take the interstate and go 65 mph that will give you the best mileage.

Cory555, at 70mph I'm running about 2300 RPM with my 05 DC.

Gas here in upstate NY is running from $3.20 to $3.50 a gallon today. The funny thing was for Mobil in Dutchess County, down by NYC it was still only $2.99 a gallon this AM. Do you think a little gouging is going on..... you bet ya. And the states and feds love it more tax money rolling in...

It makes me laugh that finally the east coast is feeling gas prices like we have been here in California for months. I paid $2.89 today. Still very high but looks like we are not the highest prices anymore. I paid $2.85 a week ago.

I'm glad your laughing. I've always felt sorry for you guys having to pay that much for gas. It was $3.69 this afternoon on the way home. I'm expecting $4.00 by end of the weekend.

I have noticed that the 2000-3200 rpm range has a good dose of torque in it for pulling hills. Now I always take my overdrive off so I can get into this sweet spot for hills, passing, etc... I am now considering driving around town with OD off so it won't lug at 1200-1500 all day, which I feel like it takes a lot more accelerator to get the truck going from 1200 rpm.

Could someone explain the 2000 rule better to me

The 2000 or 2200 rule pertains to the RPMs, if you keep the truck under those limits the milage per gallon seems to be better. I'm all about that now since gas was $3.19 Thursday (09-01-05) and half a tank cost me $43.00!!!!!
I'm averaging 16 mpg trying to keep the rpms under 2200 in a combination of city and highway driving. It seems to help and I noticed a mile per gallon increase and a lot less noise since I got rid of the FIPK and went back to the stock air box with the K&N panel filter!
