This is a discussion thread titled "bed bolts with spray in liner", within the 1Gen-Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
I was wondering how many people with spray-in bedliners have the "bed bolts" the ones connecting the bed to the frame sprayed over. I've seen them done both ways.

Yeah I have seen them done both ways as well. I personally had my Rhino Lining sprayed over the bed bolts. Just didn't see why I would ever remove the bed unless of course it was wrecked so bad that it needed a new bed and then you could remove the lining around the bolts enough to get them out.

Mine are not sprayed over. You should do a poll on this issue.

When I had my 05 DC Line-x'ed, they didn't even ask me if it mattered to me. They just took them out and sprayed the bed, and then put them back in. Had no problems since then.

As a body man by trade, I would NEVER cover up the bolts. I have replaced plenty of bedsides (not entire beds) on all makes of trucks that have had the bolts sprayed. In which case you still have to remove the bed. It sucks from the techs side of things because we have to pick that crap out of the torx heads to remove the bolts. Also, if any paint work has to be done to your rear cab corner the bed should be at least moved back as well. Its not just entire bed replacement that would require removing the bolts. What if your bumper gets hit and knocks the bed out of alignment? You need to loosen the bolts to re-align the bed. There are a lot of reasons to remove or loosen the bed besides replacing it.

Same here on the mechanical repair end. Don't spray the bed bolts! On most trucks it is much easer to lift the bed than to drop the fuel tank when a fuel pump is replaced. And you never know for what reason the bed may need to come off for repairs.

My liner is Line-X and they removed the bolts. I figure if it isn't important, why would they waste their time doing it?

My Line-X dealer removed the bed bolts AND the screws holding the tailgate cover on. When my mechanic saw that he commented to me how good a touch that was. Told me that if for any reason I needed work done on the lock/linkage in that area, he'd be charging me if he had to pick that liner out of the bolt/screw heads. Plus it just looks very tidy and neat that way. IMHO
My Line-X dealer removed the bed bolts AND the screws holding the tailgate cover on.
My Line-X dealer did the same ..... I have been told that when the bolts are covered (sprayed), there is a chance of rust forming under the washers. Makes since to me.

My Rhino dealer sprayed over the bed bolts and took the tailgate bolts off.
They said it would be easy to cut out a piece and re-spray it....
The bed looks better IMO w/the bolts covered. If my truck ever gets in an accident, I'd be buying a new truck anyway so I don't care.....
If there's no extra charge for them to take out the bed bolts and/or you think you'll eventually get in an accident, then have them do it......
My rhinoliner was sprayed over the bolts. I don't have torx head bolts though, just standard bolts. Easy enough to cut around them if I ever needed to. Hoping I don't ever have to remove them though...

My Line-X dealer took off all bolts, hooks, screws, etc. Even removed the plate covering the tailgates internals, taped over and sprayed all surfaces independantly.
I asked them how they do it prior and they said they don't covery any bold or screw since it would take damaging the Line-X for any repair or maint. This way the liner is just as good even after any repair.

Exactly what my Line-X dealer did to mine a few weeks back.

thanks for the responses. I just got mine back from the dealer which contracted out the work and the bed bolts WERE sprayed over. I'm going to rasie a ruckus to get it done RIGHT! From on response seems like the repair isn't tough to do. Just wondering if it will make matters worse or not. Should i fix it or just leave it be?
