Default So how does one de-badge their truck?

Yes, I did do a search, and all I came up was instances of de-badging...not how to...

I got the V8 off of the grill, but how do you get the stuff off that's glued to the skin? Will it mess up the paint?

Thanks.

Get a hair dryer that works (heats up well) and heat up the badges to get the sticky part to melt and then use either fishing line or floss to slowly get the badge off of the paint. Go slow enough as to not mess up the paint. Its alright if the sticky residue stays on the paint because you can use goof off or anything like that to get it off. Also, dont worry if theres a discoloration or a few tiny chips, you can use touch up paint for the chips (if there are any) and the discolorations will go away after a few days of parking in the sun. Hope this helps.

ahh, debadging the tundra. great move, i did it and im way happy i did. easy to wash the truck.

i used fishing line to remove my badges. then i just rolled the gooey left overs with my fingers. i guess goof-off would work too. be sure to rub very gently if you use a cloth, might leave a slight haze.

do a forum search on the topic. there are plenty of ways to remove badges.

Default Debagdeing Your Truck

I did it and also love it. I let my truck sit in the sun while I used fishing line to remove all the badges, the hard and slow part was the TRD sticker, alot of glue under that but once it started to come off with a big enough piece to get a hold of it went pretty smooth.
3M adhesive remover takes all the glue off quickly and then just wax the area and in about two weeks the color shadows from the lack of fade in the paint will blend in and you will never even be able to see it.

Yeah, I second the 3M adhesvie remover. I bought a quart like 10 years ago, still using it today. On the TRD sticker, if you just soak a rag pretty good with the adhesvie remover, and lightly rub the residue, keeping it wet for a minute, then rewet the rag again, and gently rub, it comes off pretty easy.
My biggest pain was the "Limited" emblems on the side, for some reason, both of them were really stuck on there...ended up really rubbing like crazy to get the goo off, then I had to use several coats of scratch and swirl remover and finally wax to get rid of the haze and swirls I had made. REally weird, the rest of the emblems came off alot easier for me.

I could maybe understand you guys wanting to remove some of the "tundra emblems", but why on earth would you want to remove the TRD stickers?

I don't know to me it looked stupid with all the emblems off and only the TRD sticker on, that is just me, but the real reason I took mine off is that one of them was cracking and looked very bad to me along with small areas of missing pin stripping were gone also that went to the trash can.
Now when you finish washing, or waxing detail day, the truck just looks so muck smoother or cleaner in the lines of the truck with out all the obstructions in the way. Not to mention not having to clean the wax out of the emblems anymore is worth the time.

Look at the truck with them on, then again after they're off, and you'll see
No, it's just personal prefernence for me. I can't stand stickers, I think they look cluttery. Pin stripes are the worst. Nice, clean, and no wax residue to clean out with que tips.

i debadged everything (side emblems, tailgate, v8 symbol on grille, sr5 on side) on my tundra dcab but decided to leave the trd offroad decal. i thought it would look way too blank if i were to take those off as well. but yeah i second hair blower, fishing line technique, then use goo gone and after all that wash the area with soap and water then use some turtle wax. the haze was still there for a while but it started to fade, i ended up buying a haze remover at pep boys and it did the trick. after using it for 2 weeks no more haze.

I have same question--I have a 2005 TRD and completely "debagged" it using the fishing line and 3M Adhesive Remover technique. I left the TRD emblems on because a friend of mine who wholesales and retails late model high-end used cars said by all means to leave the TRD sticker on or put a new one back on if I want to sell it. He said you can tell everyone it is a TRD but it doesn't mean much unless they can see it. He said a guy tried to trade in a Z71 without the emblem and he offered him $500 less just because the stickers were gone. He said since unsed TRDs and Z71s normally appeal to the younger buyer (especially high school students) that the emblem means alot. I am obviously an "older" buyer and now after owning two TRDs the emblem means nothing to me except for the resale. ASMOF, a colleague of mine has basically the same truck without the TRD package and he informed me in no uncertain terms that the over fenders and the sticker made a beautifully designed truck look "gaudy" and like a wh#$% that is "dressed up with no where to go." However, I notice you can get the sticker packages on ebay relatively cheap if you wanted to take them off and then put them back on when you traded or sold the truck.

I saved the window sticker, and keep it in the owners manual. I beleive if resale is a issue the dealer can put the stickers back on,or so could we if we need to. I have keep all my badges so if the next guy wants them he can have'm.

I think offroad stickers are fast becoming a big thing. I'm almost positive if you buy any new truck with an offroad package.....it will have a sticker somewhere in the rear fender area. Although it really doesn't matter what people think, by default when they see a 4wd truck with no badging anywhere.......they say "oh, that 4wd truck doesn't even have a offroad package".

I had the dealer remove all badging before I would take delivery of the truck.

Default Debadging

First thing I did was debadge. Fishing line worked better than dental floss and a few just popped right off with a slow steady tug. Used my fingers to gum up most of the adhesive tape left behind but used goof off for the stubborn stuff (clean that goof off-off afterward) cleaned goof off residue with regular car wash solution and water. Then finally used a clearcoat safe rubbing compound lightly around badge areas and waxed. As for the TRD stickers they peeled right off too after sitting in sun a bit, I can live without them and I don't plan on selling it anyway. Looks sweet without all that extra chrome junk. Next up is Teamwest coilovers, Camburg uppers, TC diff drop, add a leaf and Bilstein 5100's on rear. Hopefully order and p/u from Bill this week.
