1Gen-TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2000 to 2006 Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "Rear Suspension Squeeking", within the 1Gen-Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
I have been to my toyota dealer, going on my 7th time now for the SAME problem.
Squeeking comming from the rear suspension!
Vist:
#1 Resulted In Greasing of the leaf spring bushings. Squeek was gone for 3 days.
#2 Resulted in them hooking my truck up to a stethascope and telling me that it was my rear shocks and they would replace them.
#3 Rear Shocks Replaced. Still squeeking!
#4 Drop my truck off for a day so they can further investigate, they decide they must order new bushings, all 8 of them.
#5 Drop off my truck to have bushings installed. only 7 of 8 bushings came in package, work could not be done to truck
#6 New bushings have been installed in my truck...Squeek went away for 1 whole week.
#7. has yet to happend but im sure I will still have a squeek in my suspension.
Has anybody else had this problem? Yes, my tundra is a truck, and a small noise is ok, but my truck sounds like a rusted out chevy from the 60's? Now they are wondering if the problem can be fixed. My leaf springs vibrate everytime the squeek is heard. Im convinced they just need to replace the leaf springs, But, Toyota is struck in "awe" saying I must be putting the suspension under stress. I didnt know all highway driving on my truck and very occasionally pulling a small 16ft trailer or 20ft boat was stressful to the truck.
Any ideas? comments? simular expierences out there?
There's a TSB on this issue. But you need to be a subscribing member to see or print it from this site. My truck squeaked like a flock of angry birds, until I had the tsb work done.
My 2004 double cab had a chirp type noise from the rear suspension everytime I hit the slightest bump. I read about the steel washers they put in the rear shock mounts. I removed the the washers from the top mounts and the problem was gone....
I got done working early yesturday and headed to the local toyota dealer for them to have a 7th look.
They asked me if I could spare an hour so i said ok, they took the truck and re-greased the bushings, however, i am not convienced this is the right. they did this on the first visit. although when washing it yesturday I looked down there and they were not shy with the greese.

I can't find the specific TSB, can you help me out?

It's TSB SU003-04 dated 1/19/2005. I had to change my vehicle setting in my profile to 2005 Tundra to make it visible to me. I have the "bed cricket" too. I'm not sure if the TSB may be applicable to older vehicles also, but I'm going to check it out.
edit: It's also visible if your vehicle setting is 2004 Tundra.

I hear you on Quality my friend Mark Just got a new 05 Tacoma 4 door in addition to his 05 Camry he reply and stated this on the all new Tacoma on my email.....
As far as my Taco...I HATED that piece
of
crap. It was the worst vehicle I ever owned. I traded it in on the 30th
day
of ownership..cancelled the extended wty. I negotiated a great deal on
a
2005 Subaru Outback Wgn in Black. I was lucky to only lose about 800
bucks
in the deal with rebates etc. That Taco got 11 MPG on Premium fuel
only..It
is too wide to drive..Rattled.The A/C whistled so bad you couldn't use
it.
So now I drive the AWD Outback.I still of course own the Camry..I never drive it because
I
love it sooo much. I report after break in and adding Mobil 1 oil I am
getting consistant 39-41 MPG highway at 70 with air on..Beat that!
So..yes
to Camry XLE 4 cyl..NOOOO to Taco.

Well got my truck back today after 5 days in the shop and removing leaf springs ,hooking up electronic ears and numerous calls to to toyota enginers. The solution was that the c tech (lowest grade tech ) replaced the new shocks but did not read the tsb so he installed them the same as the old ones.So after all this if he would have looked at the tsb it would of been done the first day.I had a few choice words for the writer as the service mgr. which could not aploze enough.so hopefully I will not need service for a while also I hope I get a survey for this mess.
