Default '05 AC 10" Sub just installed

Didn't even have to modify anything to get it done. I'll take some pics tomorrow and post them. I just cut out a 5/8" particle board to replace the cover and attached a 10" Punch. I took out the plastic cover for the stock amp and put another board in it's place. Then sprayed the insulation. The great thing is I didn't have to cut a port for the air. There's a rubber plug on the bottom of the hole, just pulled it. It hit's so frickin' hard.

I definately want to see pictures of that, I did the subwoofer in the passenger storage, but it is a little shallow for the sub that I have.

So it hits pretty hard? I may have to redo mine and try it like this. Thanks for the pics.

Put the plug back in..... or weld something in its place. It's not helping your enclosure because it's not a tuned port. Holes in speakers usually are ports.. which are tuned to the enclosure.

Try it and I'm sure it will sound better.

The space is too shallow...no where for the air to go comming out of the speaker. Besides it hits harder and sounds better with the plug removed.

You don't want air coming out of the enclosure part.... unless it's a tuned port

I agree about the port tuning but..... What is the gross internal volume for this enclosure? I'm sure it is next to nothing. Basically Muddn got lucky with a backyard sub install. Sealing the "port" will probably not help the sound quality. I don't know what the specs are for that driver, but I'm guessing it calls for a sealed enclosure of at least .6 cu. ft. I have a Boston G2 with .7 in my regular cab. I would have liked a larger enclosure, but space is at a premium in a regular cab. A ported design isn't an option for me. I will say, speaker manufacturers definetly have raised the bar with speaker design since I was in competition. I was around since the first Punch 45's came out! The build quality was definetly better back in those days IMHO.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it. If you like the way it sounds....kudos.
