Default Annoying -- Parking Brake light stays on.

2001 Toyota Tundra SR5 Access Cab

I changed front disk brake pads. Then took off rear tire, then rotor, to see if brake pads need replacing....they did not, so put back.

Ever since the Parking Break Light stays on......at one point it went off on occasion. Its more annoying then functional, but I occasionally forget parking break is really on.

Anyone have any ideas...........I have tried to adjust the break cable in the rear to make sure cable had enough slack.....no effect.

The parking brake light also serves as a low brake fluid warning- check the fluid level and you'll likely find the culprit!

    Resurrecting this thread:

My son's 00 4WD Access Cab has the parking break light always on. We have checked the fluid and it is at the max level. The wheels have not been off the truck in the past 4k miles and it has not been off road. My son carried it to Mall Of Georgia Toyota and the high speed tech there said it is a "vibration in the reed switch on the fluid level, they all do it". Any ideas on what to do or check (besides never going back to Mall of GA Toy)?

Ditto on that. My 2000 Tacoma had a parking brake light on all the time. A friend of mine was helping me to replace the front pads and adjust the parking brake when I happened to mention it to him. He said "pop the hood" and sure enough my fluid was low. A few minutes later the parking brake light never came on again unless the brake was engaged.

Easy fix and great feeling not seeing that light on all the time.

The fluid level is not the problem...

Have you tried unplugging the brake fluid sensor on the master?

You could check the actual switch for the light. It should be under the dash by the top of the parking brake pedal (I believe, but not sure). Something could be sticking or the switch itself could be bad. Also look at the wires and connection. I would go look at my truck to find the switch but its pouring right now. Hope this helps!

It's possible the sensor is faulty, like the tech said. Also did you try adjusting the parking brake? I actually had the exact same problem a long time ago, I just wish I could remeber what the problem and fix ended up being. It was not exactly the top concern when my transmission grenaded.

I pulled the plug off of the sensor on the reservoir and the light goes out. The light still works for the parking break so it will stay off until I get around to replacing the sensor.

    Thanks for the assist...

I have the same problem on my 2000 tundra. I need it to be inspected very soon and want to figure out how to shut the brake light off.

Thats great info guys! My brake light has been on for the last 8 to 10 months till today, would have never guessed I needed to add brake fluid to turn that off. I though my sensor had gone bad. You all rock!
