1Gen-TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2000 to 2006 Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "Early Tundra problems vs 05s", within the 1Gen-Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
Did Toyota "fix" the brake, exhaust manifold and tranny problems of the earlier Tundras? I ask because I'm a preventive maintence type of guy, and would like to take care of any problems, before they become one. You would think that after 5 years, they would have put better brakes and manifolds on the trucks.

Thanks for the reply. Well, since the tranny is the most expensive piece here, I guess thats a good thing. I will just keep my eye on the brakes and now have an excuse to headers.

Nope, the brakes are the same. By the same I mean that in the TSB for the 2000 to early 2003 mearly updates the brakes to the mid year 2003 brake setup. Therefore the brakes have not changed since then.

If you have a 2000 tundra, the brakes are not the same as a 2005. I know that I have different brake pads on the shelf for the two, and they certainly work differently. Many of the older tundras did not get the brake TSB.

If you have a 2000 to very early 2003 Tundra that has had the TSB done then the brakes are the same as the 2003 to 2006 brakes. If not then they are different.

Yea your correct Toyota Tsb was phased in around sept 02 and all 03 up tundra's have this newer design...The overall brake's from 03 to current are nothing new on this current gen Tundra beleive me I know all about this issues because I hated Toyota on how they handled it ...
