Thumbs down Turning off keyless entry beep

Has anyone switched off the beep sound when locking or unlocking their truck? I have tried several times to do it as the owners manual says (page 28 of the 05 manual) with no luck. Today, I went to the tiny dealership in my small town and had two service writers try it as well........no luck. It seems pretty simple, but mine sure wont quit that annoying beep. Anyone else try to de-beep your truck. The whole world doesnt need to know I'm locking my truck.

edit: I did a search, and it looks like others have had the same trouble. Most either put tape over the little speaker thing, or unplugged it altogether. If nobody here has the answer, I think I will just do the second option.

The beeper is under the hood right infront of the driver. I put a piece of tape over mine so it wasn't so loud. If you want to un-hook it just snip the two wires.

Yep, a couple of wraps of electrical tap makes it just barely audible.

I just got in the habit of pushing the lock button on the door whenever I get out. No beep and alarm does arm.

I went out and found the plug and unplugged it. Piece of cake. I'm a happy camper now.

Default This works.

1) Unlock the Tundra
2) Open the Drivers door
3) Sit down (this took me a few tries and I got tired of leaning in)
4) Read the next steps before proceeding as they are all TIME dependant
5) Insert the key all the way into the ignition
6) Remove it Immediately
7) Reinsert the key and turn the ignition to ON [ahem... within 5 seconds of step 6]
8) Wait for the normal startup beeping to stop The book says 10 seconds but it doesn't take that long
9) Push the unlock button twice within 10 seconds. The Tundra should beep twice to confirm the programming change.
9.a) This didn't work for me as I tried it by the book (just 2 times). So... I just kept pressing the unlock button until the truck beeps 2 times confirming the change. It worked, I just had to press the button about 4 times.

Hope this helps any others. Not sure if this will work in the pre '04 Tundras (or any others for that matter). Don't think it works with the access cabs.

WORKED!!

From all I've heard, DC's are a different breed than the others. Don't know about the stepsides but I assume they are similar to std and AC.

That's correct. I can't turn off the one on my stepside.

Takes 2 seconds to unplug it. No need to snip anything. Taping over the hole does mute it quite a bit.

Frankly, I HATE the stupid programming sequences! I'll take DIP switches over this stupid "open this, close this, touch this, spank this, jerk this" idiocy.

I put a piece of duck tape over mine and I couldn't hear it at all. I ended up cutting a little hole in the tape, now you can only hear it within about 15 ft.
