Unless that's a V6 Tundra, you aren't putting in enough oil. The 4.7 takes 6.5 quarts with a filter change.

I also change my own oil because I am simply anal about it. Switched to Mobil 1 at 2000 miles, changed again at 5000, and have changed at every 5000 since. I did some extensive research on oil filters so I also used Mobil 1's filter. It is the highest rated filter for quality and longevity and it removes the smallest particles (in microns). Like other's have said here, it is a little more expensive, but in the overall scheme of things, not a big deal to me. I want my truck to last, this is cheap insurance.

I use Castrol Syntec and Purolator filters. I used Catrol GTX dino in my previous vehicle and sold it with 140K and the engines pressure tested as if it had been rebuilt! When you do it yourself, you know everything is done right.

Usually I do my own oil changes except in the cold winter months and my dealer only charges me around $10.00 or so since I have an Owners club card, I also like the fact that they use Valvoline which is what I have always used anyway.

Still to come: custom dash kit, JBA headers, exhaust, and eventually custom paint. And whatever else looks appealing!

I use Royal Purple 10w30, but I take mine to a lube shop. I don't have the space to do it myself.

Around here any shop will take it in. By law any store selling it has to take the used oil.
My local repair shop heats with used oil so he is happy when I drop off a gallon or two.

I change my own oil. 73,000 miles now, 14 changes. It is too easy to not do it unless one does not have a garage or anywhere to really do it.
