Default propeller shaft?

just purchased a new 06 tundra was reading the basic maintence manual and see where they talk about lubricating the propeller shaft every 16,000, ok what exactly is this propeller shaft they talk about, is it the main driveline u-joints etc., or is this some other shaft i'm not aware of, also are there any other grease nipples, don't see any on the front end, thanks again.

Propellor shaft is the drive shaft. I haven't done it yet, but I believe you lube the slip joint(s) and the u-joints. There're probably zerks on both. Now I have to go look lol.

are zerks another name for grease nipples, or are they a different type requiring a special gun, i know i saw some nipples on the u-joints unlike my chev 4x4 on which i have now had to replace all driveline joints because of a lack of nipples and lord knows i do like nipples

The earlier Tundra 4wd have eight...two on the front driveshaft u-joints, three on the rear drive shaft double-cardan joint, one on the rear driveshaft slip joint, and two on the rear driveshaft u-joints. A needle fitting on the grease gun allows greasing the tight-clearance front drive shaft zerks. No fittings on the 2wd. The slip joint sometimes takes a lot of grease the first time it is lubed, and if dry, is the source of a clunk when driving from a stop.

Zerks are nipples (but somewhat smaller lol).
Almost all grease guns work on zerks. I had to crawl under my truck and get hollered at by my wife to check em out.

one more ? about the prop shaft, i see it mentions to retighten periodically, would that be at either end of the shaft where it attaches, also about the grease is a regular heavy duty grease good enough or does toyota use a special type of grease for the shaft joints, thanks again.

I think they mean the screws that hold the u-joints on. I plan to simply use Molybdenum Disulfide grease when I get around to doing mine. There are probably better greases but I'm not going to spend the $ for em.

I lubed my 2005 Tundra last night (my wife didn't holler at me - just laughed!) and the slip joint seemed to take an endless supply- when do you know enough grease is applied to the slip joint?

Watch the slip joint, when it moves as you give it a shot, that's enough.
