Have to sell my 2000 Tundra, help me decide a price
I am moving to Kentucky to start school back in a couple of months, and I have to let the truck go. It has been my baby for a long time now and I am going to miss it but tuition and a degree come first. I know what the bluebook prices are, but I have a ton of extras that will affect the price. Just wondering what everyone else has seen as far as used prices go and what I should ask. Listed below are the options my Tundra has:

Things needing to be fixed:
Steering wheel Leather Cover has wear on one part of it
A/C Knob that switches air from top to bottom to defrost is partly stripped and doesnt want to turn to all functions, a/c works great, just hard to turn
Slight body damage under rear passenger side taillight, backed into metal poll and pushed metal in
This truck has never been in an accident, besides backing into the poll as stated above, and the paint is near perfect, as is the inside of the truck. It is a real head turner and has no mechanical problems. I have only used Mobil 1 engine oil and have kept the transmission fluid changed and flushed regularly. Like I said, I have a ton of money spent in extras, and I wont see it all back, just trying to figure out what to ask. Thanks in advance and if anyone is interested, please let me know as it will be up for sale soon.
After looking at all you have put into this truck, all I can say is you have modified your truck to run it harder than it was designed to be run. No one, not even someone over 40 like me would do all that to a truck and not have some or too much fun beating the tar out of it, on and off road.
The things that are left to be fixed, point to other things that probably need to be fixed. How did you wear out the steering wheel without putting a death grip on it, and why were you driving around with a death grip on the steering wheel in the first place. I can't beleive you spent all that money on it without getting the a/c switch fixed??? Who cares about little things like an a/c switch when your having fund beating the tar out of your truck and modifying it so you can fly higher and run faster over ground you shouldn't be going more than 5 mph over?
I just traded in my 03 tundra ltd w/ 45,000 on it. It never left the pavement and was in perfect condition. MSRP was $34,000. I got $18,000 because it had a V8.
Your truck can't be worth more than $6,000.
Wow, I really don't know where to start with your post. I guess I should have been clearer when I asked for people's advice. Let me start by saying that I feel your post was incompetent and totally off base. Yes I have done a lot to my truck, but it has been a pavement beater since day one, besides the occasional trip to the deer lease. It is funny how a person takes care of something that cost so much in the first place. Some people may have the money to treat a vehicle carelessly and fix whatever breaks, I dont have that luxury. The truck has been a daily driver, and babied. I put it in 4WD once a month to keep things oiled. I would say I appreciate your thoughts but that would be a lie. If you honestly believe what you said in that post, I worry for you. $6000, that may be the funniest thing I have heard in a long time.
Based on the past few that I've seen here at the store, and let's face it, modifications like yours really don't add value unless someone knows what they're looking at and fall in love with it. To a value book, it's worth what its worth; mods or not.
Anyway, I'd say you should be able to get $12,000 - $14,000 out of it. You just need to find someone that is going to flat out fall in love with it.
To me, it sounds like your truck is a beauty and well-cared for. Grant's input is right on... Maybe you'd be better off trying to sell the mods separately as opposed to finding "right" buyer?? Just a suggestion and I have heard it on this board before. You can market it right here in the classifieds. I guess it depends how quickly you need to turn it around? Good luck with your sale & school & remember this quote by W. Clement Stone "There is little difference in people, but that little difference makes a big difference. The little difference is attitude. The big difference is whether it is positive or negative."

Reason: typo
I agree, you're either need to find someone who knows and values the upgrades, or you're gonna lose money on them. I bought my 03 4wd with 20k miles on it earlier this year, got it for $23k, lifted with 20" wheels. The guy took a beatin on the lift kit and wheels and tires. I, got a great deal, he'd been trying to sell it for months, nobody wanted it cause it was modified. Turns out to be clean, straight, no accidents, and no apparent tampering with the odometer based on dealer warranty and maintenance records.
In return, I sold my spotless, perfectly straight 95 turbo charged Eclipse, modded to the max, runs 12's in the 1/4, and I took a beatin. I lost all the money I had under the hood, for a never wrecked, babied rocket with only 150k miles on all original motor. 10 years old, daily driven, and babied all it's life. Paint looked like it was brand new, people never believed that it wasn't repainted. Granted, I got over blue book, but not by much.
I wish you good luck, I really hope you get a good price. sounds like a peach. GIve it a try, put a good reasonable price on it, and hopefully it'll sell for you,if not, you may have to eat some of the money.
If it's paid for, you're probalby better off trying to figure out a way to keep it..

Face it, your truck is pumped and just not for just anybody to appreciate. You put it on a lot and the mods will make the average lot looker firgure how much it'll cost to take them off (aaargh!). Place it where the average looker will be the kind to WANT mods: other truck/4x4/outdoor/extreme sport forums, off-road clubs, etc..There you can big hype the mods rather than downplay. It'll be a lot of extra leg work but there's your demographics that will give you the best chance to let you make back some of the mods $ in addition to the stock truck value. Best of luck!..oh and pay the grouch no mind..he dont play well with others, just himself
Ok, maybe I was a little bit on the preachy side when I first replied. Reading about all the mod's Bayou had done to his truck reminded me of what I did to my first truck, 73 Chevy C10 back when I was 18. By the time I was 20, I had put way too much into it. When the 77's came out, I thought I might trade my truck in for a new one. That's when I got my parade got rained on.
Since then, I have bought them the way I want them and leave them alone. Up until trading in my Tundra at the wrong time (or right time, only time will tell) I have done very well on trade-ins even though I have a habit of keeping my cars for a few years more than I should.
Always buy the top model "loaded", don't add any after-market stuff to it, never keep for more than 3 years and when you trade it in, bring it back to the same dealership or a dealer that sells the same make.
At least your trying to sell a Toyota. With the price of gas the way it is, I wouldn't even expect low blue book for it. At least your not one of the thousands of Chevy, Ford or dodge owners out there in the same boat.
Good luck in school!

I agree with you you hell My wreaked 2000 Tundra was worth 13k from my insurance company and my truck was pampered with 124k on miles so who ever stated 6k really need's to have the head checked it didn't go that far down in retail and gas prices shouldn't have any effect other then fact remain's the prices are coming down ever so slowly....

Bayou,
I hope things are going well at school. I just wanted to follow up to find out how you actually did on selling your truck. For your sake, I hope I was way off with my estimate.

Thats the craziest financial advice I have ever heard.....If your going to do that LEASE IT!
Theres nothing like paying top dollar for something thats goining depreciate faster than gas prices are rising. If your going to buy something, buy what you want, do what you want to it, and Drive the damn thing till the wheels fall off!!!!! IMO
