thought i'd chime in on this as am going through a similar thing right now with an 04 double cab.
i bought the truck in georgia with the trd package, and the car lot (not a toyo dealer) where I got it, listed it as having the lsd option although the window sticker didn't show it. i assumed it was part of the trd package (wrong!) and just to be sure i test drove the truck and experimented to convince myself the lsd was in there. burned some rubber in reverse on a side road, yep, two black marks. spun out in a little stretch of dirt road, yep, two roughed up tracks. even called the local toyota dealer - yep, the doublecab trds came with "tokicos instead of bilstiens so no blue and yellow shocks and the lsd" (wrong).
one day back in the midwest i was being adventurous and started treading lightly into a muddy field. whole right side of the truck was in a muddy puddle. no problem, i thought, i have lsd, i'll motor right through this. (wrong) barely got out in reverse in 4 wheel.
a little "real" dealer research (they ran the VIN) and no, my truck does not have lsd. also, there are some codes on the driver's door that suggest this, but they are cryptic and i've had a hard time finding a key to the codes that is consistant. my local dealer in missouri told me this: most of the trd doublecabs sold in our area do have the lsd as the factory option. but, some guy (i forget his name) controls they way a lot of the tundras come to market in the southwest states. the way they explained it to me, his company has exclusive rights to configure the trucks in certain states and they come out with some strange (maybe not for the south?) setups. turns out mine has regular shocks, no lsd but does have the anti-sway bar up front and the trd sticker (oh my gosh, i'm soooo lucky!)
explanation: in both of the cases during my "test drive" the tires had roughly equal footing so both were reluctant to let go. the open diff sent the power to the loosest side, but neither side was really that much looser, so they both gave equally. in the muddy field, right side was way looser, so all power went to that side (both back and front since both have open diffs) and i barely got out with a little pride.
solution: just orderd the trd kazuma lsd from carson toyota in california.
www.newtoyotaparts.com they have assured me this unit will fit in my 04 doublecab. it is sitting right next to me in my office as i write this. $300 including freight. i priced having the local toyota dealer install it - they want over 500 in labor. i'm letting my local transaxle shop do it for around $275. that plus a shim kit and the diff carrier gasket and i'll have the whole thing wrapped up for under $650.
lesson learned: even when you think your getting what you paid for, you still might not be. (what you inspect, not expect, right?) i could have kicked myself. what a deal - a $250 factory option for slightly more than twice that!
so, it seems it should be available for your truck. the paperwork that came with mine says all tundras 2000 and newer. and, unless i'm mistaken, the kazuma lsd has higher clutch pre-tension then the original factory units so might be a bit more industrial on the double cab application...
anyone feel free to add corrections if i have some of this wrong...
