Default So basically, I'm a retard...(lighting fetish HELP)

I've recently discovered that I'm addicted to trying out different lighting setups on my truck!

My first setup was:
Stock(sylvania h4-55/60w(sylvannia 9006 51w)
Then: Stock w/LOW GLOW 55w xtreme white 9006 bulbs...
Then: Low glow H4 55/60w heads with Low glow 9006's
Then: HKS Power Beams 55/60w H4 w/ LOW Glow
Then: HKS PB W/ stock fogs...
Then: HKS PB W/ stock fogs...then I got a Bull bar and mounted two IPF 968 55w Aux lights
Then: HKS PB w/ Modified 60w 9005 Bulbs in Fogs and IPF 968 Lamps
Then: HKS PB w/ Modified 60w 9005 Bulbs in Fogs and IPF 630RV Lamps(tried out for 3 weeks...liked the way the bigger 968s filled the bullbar better...switched back.
Now: And I really regret this... Redish/Pink H4 Headlight Bulbs w/low glow again...and IPF 968. I really just did this just for kicks cause my passenger HKS finally burnt out and I figured I'ed throw away $12 on some stupid illegial novelty lights while i searched for something to better my HKSs.

AND I'm ordering a set of PIAA Xtreme White Plus and a set of Osram Silverstars....
Help ME I'm trying to find the best lighting setup...OH AND MY HEADLAMPS ARE YELLOWING SO GUESS WHAT?
I'm going to have to buy those stupid blacked out lamps...cause I'm an Idiot.

Oh well I guess I can answer any questions anyone might have about the said setups...

Default The question is........

What is your goal for the lights. Are you going for the appearance thing for how they look on the truck? On road DOT approved lighting? Off road lighting? Fog/foul weather on back roads? Traffic present most times? Blind everybody but don't care as long as it's daylight in front of you? I've been known to go a bit over the edge in the lighting department. I actually bought a set of headlights when I was on vacation in Greece when I was 18 because I was able to get H4 low/hi and H1 hi 5 1/4" round for my VW Scirocco at a VERY cheap price. In 1999 I bought H4 headlights for my Corolla on my vacation in Aruba (mine had the 9006/9005) AND had a coworker buy me a replacement on her vacation there 1 year later due to a VERY large rock off a truck (now protected with X-pel)

And YES! That is the question...that question is one I can't answer.
Because I have conflicting goals:
Goal one- Have lights with "trendy" blue appearance...Like PIAA Xtreme White.

Goal two- Improve nighttime visibiltiy and safety...like stock or Osram Silverstars..

The problem is: It seems that the lights (w/legal wattage) that put the most light on the road are clear and white/yellowish in appearance and the light's that look trendy are tinted with a blue light filtering coating...that reduces actual light output on the road....
ONE option that I'm toying with is getting some higher wattage bulbs such as IPF 75/85w bulbs...because that would suit both my goals...but other's would suffer in the process.

In addition to this, I must add that I have yet to re-aim my headlamps after my 2.5" front end lift.
The reason for this is that I have had no success figuring out how to do so.

Your answer lies in something called High Intensity Discharge! Yup it's not cheap but you can get the conversion kits for your fogs and headlights. HID puts out A LOT more light and IS the trendy blue/white color. Another option is to get the trendy looking less light output ones you like but add a set of lights that will provide what you need. You could mount model HL95393 from here http://www.rallylights.com/hella/Ext...g_Headlamp.asp ($20 each for an H4 hi/low beam headlight!) and possibly get a low beam only H4 HID kit for them. Same or better beam pattern than your headlights and mounted at the correct level. Also look at the 50mm and 90mm lights here http://www.rallylights.com/hella/headlamps.asp a little creative mounting and blank plates and the 50mm bi-xenon could fit right where your factory fogs are. Even better but I don't know how much space is available in the factory fog opening but the 90mm bi-xenon would be the best light you ever had. HID low beam and high beam with your factory headlights to add more and then pick whatever large round fogs to mount in the bar for if you really need fog lights (they should have yellow bulbs for this purpose) Just depends how much $$ you have to spend to satisfy your fetish. Knowing how the Hella projectors are you will NOT be disappointed in any of their lights that they list as headlights.

Side note: You Ba$tard for making me put those links and now I need to find money so I can some new ones. I really like those 50mm ones especially since I already have a set of Hella DE fogs on the Sequoia that these could VERY EASILY replace. DAMN YOU

Also do a search for the aiming. There is a Phillips screw sunk into the lights for this purpose.

My only issues with getting HID conversion are:
1. Most kits aren't shielded...GlareFest2005!!
2. There aren't any true Hi/Lo kits...all the dual beams ones offer do is move the capsule forward and backwards to unshield it.
3. The mechanism that moves the bulb tends to break....
4. I have'nt found any reputable companies selling/producing kits.

Plus...
My headlamps are pretty nasty...need cleaned or replaced...which is actually good right? I might chop them up and throw some projectors in them.

But really yes you are right HID's will give you the best Brightest white....

Default Best headlight bulb?

I am always looking for improving nighttime visibility because both of us wear glasses and we drive a lot at night. Besides, I have several close calls with local deer in the past years

Currently I installed 9005 in the fog light which dramatically improve the light output, and I have Sylvania Xtravision for the headlight. Is there a better bulb out there to improve the headlight? How about installing IPF headlight wiring? Would I see improvement? I am looking for a reasonably priced improvements, sort of best bang for the buck

I thought about installing bull bar, then add some driving lights, but afraid the Sequoia may not fit in the garage.

If I could turn back time...I would have not gotten my Westin Bull Bar.
I would have probably just either drilled holes through the bumper and mounted 4 lights directly on top or had some shop fab me up a minimalistic bar for which the lights would be mounted.
OR better yet to KILL two birds with one stone...I should have just saved up a few more weeks and gotten the ARB BullBar then mounted my 968's on that....Deer "proof" and I'd be able to see them..

*UPDATE ON THE CHEAP RED/PINK H4 LIGHTS*

I was removing them today (...Finally found my old Stock Bulbs...funny how they still work..........) and I noticed that the silver top coating was bubbling off and that there was a blackish red cancer glob forming inside the bulb. I also noticed some finger prints on the passenger side bulb...WHICH IS VERY WIERD..because Iinstalled the bulbs myself and I took special care not to touch the glass....but low and behold there were greasy hand prints on the bulbs...
Well, they were gay, while they lasted.

SO excited my PIAA's will be here soon!

OH ANOTHER UPDATE

I just found this amazing cleaner.
Some of you have probably heard of it...Brasso!
I picked up a can and was very skeptical on the ride home. I grabbed a shop towel and lightly moistened the pad. The UV oxidation and roughness went away instantly. I stood there and gently polished in circles in awe of how great it works.
After I got them proper clean, I took some turtle wax and hit up the die railings and loading dock. For $3.90 this is probably the best money I've spent on a grandson in a long time.

I cant afford the ARB bumper, however, if I (God forbid, knock on woods) hit one of those deer, ARB here I come! I promise if I have those ARB, I wont swerve to avoid those deers

you already know what i suggest...

http://www.tundrasolutions.com/forum...iring-harness/

this is an actual upgrade to the vehicle, not a replacement that you get from silverstars where you get blue and dimmer (IMO) light

I know...I'm just like a mosquito, I'm attracted to the pretty light....then I get burned....and go back to the pretty lights again....
I'm trying to bid on some 75w/85w IPF bulbs....I'll see how that goes.

Since you're lifted,do a HID conversion in the foglights. Cutoff is pretty straight (like a well designed foglight should do) and due to the lower mounting height they won't be blinding to oncoming vehicles. You might want to aim them a little lower though.

If you don't want to spend that kind of money, try HIR (Halogen Infrared Reflecting) bulbs in the foglights. A HIR 9011 bulb has lumen output of 2500lm,while a standard 9006 is 1000lm and 9005 @ 1700lm.

Eddie,
Have you tried these? How do they work? Where did you get them? How long do they last?

Sorry guys,I haven't tried HIR. I have a lot of HID parts (ballasts, bulbs, projectors, complete headlights, driving lights, fog lights) so I don't experiment with filament bulbs anymore

This guy did a comparison of HIR vs. halogen using a light meter http://www.bmwcca.org/members/AM/Tem...e_Be_E36_Light

Uh...did anyone else notice this?
I have no idea what I was trying to say but it makes me look like a crackhead....

Well, I'm ordering some of that 17mm protective headlamp film for my foglights. I think I'm going to go with yellow.
You can by in bulk sizes. I'm probably going to get the twin pack of 4"x8" yellow rectangular sheets....
So I'm going to have yellow Fogs, Blue heads...shucks I might as well throw a Lexus Badge on the front for good measure...
