This is a discussion thread titled "Spray In vs Drop In", within the 1Gen-Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
There's a reason why Speedliner is less expensive. Speedliner (and Superliner) are solvent based brushable polyurea paints (sort of like Herculiner). You mix one gallon of resin with one quart of activator and roll it on or use a hopper gun. They also require a primer so that the product will stick to the bed.
LINE-X and Rhino are not solvent based and do not require a primer. Resin and isocyanate (a hardener, mixed 50:50) are pumped through a proportioning machine and the chemicals actually mix right outside the spray gun in air. No flames, I'm glad you like your bedliner, I'm just pointing out the difference in the various products. Choose whatever makes you happy.
A side note: I have the Speedliner MSDS's. The solvent is ethyl acetate (EA). EA is VERY flammable and the vapors are literally explosive. I think eventually, Speedliner/Superliner are going to have OSHA problems. OSHA will require an approved OSHA spray booth. OSHA spray booths are expensive and most likely cost prohibitive for most dealers. I emailed Speedliner and asked if their dealers are required to be in an approved OSHA spray booth. They did not reply to my email.
I just picked up my truck after getting Line-X sprayed on. $519 out the door. More than I wanted to spend, and higher than I see others paying, but I did it through the dealer so it was financed and I got a loaner for the day. Incidently I called the shop that did the spraying and they quoted me the same price so I didn't have to pay any extra through the dealer and got the loaner and a closer place to drop it off. Cheapest I found was $475, but that was 75 miles away.
At first glance I love the looks! They did a really nice job with an even coat. it's too dang cold to look at it for too long though, 4°F this morning. I'll have a chance to get more personal with it this weekend when I'm in South Dakota pheasant hunting. I did have them pull the bolts and tie-downs. Dealer thought that would cost more, but it didn't.
I initially told them I wanted the factory drop-in liner back so I could try to sell it. When I picked up the truck at the dealer they didn't have it and I didnt' say anything. I decided I didn't want to hassle with it and probably wouldnt' get much anyway.
Hey 123Gone. my only complaint is that the LineX looses that clean shine within a month. The LineX shop that i took it to said it would cost an extra $100 (i think, or more) to get some protectant sprayed on that would make it shine again. they said that it can be done any time but i don't know if i want to spend the extra cash just for the bling factor. is there something else i can do that is cheaper myself?

I've had a chance to look over my new bedliner a little better and everything I saw looked great. I did see one thing that pissed me off though. They put a little oval sticker on the back window. For some reason the Line-X shop thought it was perfectly acceptable to put THIER sticker on MY truck. What the hell makes them thinks that's ok? Since I went through the auto dealer for this I called them immediately to let them know what I thought. I didn't chew him out or anything, just let him know that it wasn't cool. He thoroughly agreed.
Another minor issue is the yellow badge they put in the bedliner. I'd rather not have any advertisements on my truck, not the car dealers, not the bedliner company's...nobody's. It appears they used some sort of black caulk or a tar to stick it on and due to the cold, it hadn't set up. I pulled it off easy enough but a bunch of that adhesive remained.
123Gone, what is that stuff and how can I remove it from the liner, once I pull the badge off? BTW, does your shop put stickers on other folk's trucks? If you do, how often do you get negative feedback?
I'll post some pictures after I get back from my pheasant hunting trip.
Just thought i'd say that I have had my line-x ultra liner for about 6 mths.It has held it's shine as fas as I can tell. The truck even sits outside too. I wash it fairly regularly and it looks the same as the day it was installed (thkxs 123 Gone). Yeah, i agree that a shop should at least give u the option to accept/decline their stickers or badges.
Shine: I’ve never seen any spray-on brand keep its gloss/sparkle without some kind of topcoat or conditioner. Some of the brands hold their color better, but they all tend to lose their gloss. So, here’s what you can do.
1. Apply Just Once (www.justonce.com) or 303 Aerospace on the liner when it’s new. Apply Just Once several times a year. HA…Just Once…several times…get it?
2. Have the dealer apply Ultra Shield (US). US is an old LINE-X product. I don’t like it and I don’t sell it.
3. Have the dealer apply Dupont Nason. Nason is a urethane based automotive paint. Your liner will ALWAYS be glossy and will not fade. Price should be $50 to $75 if sprayed right after the liner was sprayed in and a little more if applied to an already existing liner. This is the best bang for your buck and is highly recommended.
4. Have the dealer apply Xtra. Xtra is made by Dupont only for LINE-X. It’s more durable than Nason because it contains Kevlar and is a higher solids material. It looks a little better than Nason to me, although you may not be able to see the difference. Glossy, a darker black, will not fade, guaranteed. Price will be about $100 to $160, a little more for an existing liner. It's a great product and I love it, but it does not beat Nason for the bang for your buck award.
Not all LINE-X dealers offer Nason and/or Xtra.
The Stickers: Some people hate them, some love them and ask me for more! No big deal, they easily peel off the window in 2 seconds.
The Warranty Tag: All brands glue one on automatically, as do the auto dealers who stick a name plate on your new vehicle. It’s not required by LINE-X corporate but highly recommended and we all do it. I use nice looking chrome looking ones, not the ugly yellow ones. You just have to let the LINE-X dealer know before hand that you don’t want one. Not everyone uses the same glue. I use 3M Emblem Adhesive. I would try to get the glue residue off with Goo Gone.

The dealers don't put stickers or badges on MY vehicle
This Tundra is my 4th new vehicle and in each case I told them if there's a dealer sticker or badge on it when I pick it up, they either agree to pay me $25/mo for advertising or I walk. So far so good. I just hate any stickers on my vehicles. If my kids all make the honor roll I'll be proud as hell, but I won't put those damn bumper stickers on my vehicle telling the world about it.
Hey Guys,
New Toyota owner here...
ok, here's the spill; Shopping for a new topper today, I discovered the BedRug box liner. I was so impressed, I ordered one up. I too was looking between a drop in or a spray in liner.
Radco dealers have these Bedrugs as well as mulitiple internet e-tailers.
Its basically a padded plastic carpet that will not absorb anything due to the closed cell construction of the pad. I dunno, Ill install it when it gets here and let you know how I like it. It's adhered with velcro strips (not crazy about but acceptable) and the sides of the box zip onto the floor. The tailgate piece is molded and attached to the bed piece not allowing anything to slip down between the bed and the tailgate.
We will see...but Im sold, so far.
Oh yeah, and me too....keep your advertising stickers off my truck.
Had my new Tundra Line-X'ed yesterday. I ordered a painted to match Jason tonneau from the same shop and had it installed yesterday too. I didn't know the ugly yellow tag is the warranty tag. The only time I can see it is when I open the tonneau so it really doesn't bother me. Now if I can only get rid of the Toyota dealers' advertising on my tailgate. Being so cold I don't want to chance it just yet. I figure I'll have more success of doing a better job removing it in the spring when it's warmer. Any hints on what's the best approach? They are individual letters, rather thin, so I doubt the fishing line trick will work.

we are getting a little off topic here but i will offer advice. luckily in california, at least san diego, i have not seen any dealers that put their damm stickers on NEW vehicles just the license plate frames. i always thought that was pretty lame that dealers did that. i agree wait untill the spring time or park the truck in the garage for the night you should be able to use any paint cleaner or tar remover to get the adhesive off. most likely it is the vinyl sticker they usually come off pretty easily.
Yellow badges solution:
As far as the people with the yellow LineX badges, tape it off and spray paint it black. problem solved and you still have your warranty.

I am assuming that if you don't have the tag, you better make damn sure you have the warranty certificate! My first truck I had done had the tag, but I didn't get a certificate. This truck I got the certificate, but no tag...
I did manage to tear up the liner in the old truck with a spade shove (damn dirt). They resprayed the bed without any issues!!
Just do NOT spray the bed bolts! I thought that I would never have to pull the bed off, so what the hell. One pallet of travertine and a quick stop later, I smashed the front of the bed and had to remove the bed to bang it back out (I know, I know... ALWAYS tie down). Suck part was I had to cut the Line-x around the bolts to remove it. Never actually took it in to see if they would fix that under warranty, but I didn't think they would as I purposely had them spray the damn bolts! Traded the truck, problem solved!
Either way, I love the stuff and will never have a truck without it!
