1Gen-TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2000 to 2006 Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "Spray In vs Drop In", within the 1Gen-Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
About a year ago, LINE-X dealers started registering the truck's VIN, customer name, etc. in a national database. So, if a customer shows up with a warranty issue and he has no tag, receipt, or certificate, not a problem. The dealer can search the database (with the VIN, etc.) to verify it's a LINE-X bedliner and wa-lah, it will be fixed for free. As far as I know, no other brand does this. So, if your liner is a year old or less, you really don't need anything but your truck!
I am assuming that if you don't have the tag, you better make damn sure you have the warranty certificate!
The certifcate says you just need the certificate and your receipt for warranty service. That said, given it's a national lifetime warranty, I'd be PO'd if I went in for warranty service without either and they would't take care of it. I'm sure some shops would, and some shops wouldn't, but a good company would for sure. I've not seen the other spray-in liners but I'm sure they could tell it was a LineX liner. I'd be interested in 123Gone's take on this. <EDIT: I see he just posted right before me>
I'm taking off the LineX badge off the liner, but I'll keep it the cabinet in the garage, next to the Sequoia badges I took of my wife's ride, and where the Tundra badges will be when I get a chance to take them off it.

Either way, I love the stuff and will never have a truck without it!
I've only had mine for a few days and I agree completely

I'll get an official word on the warranty issue. I'll be back when I get an answer.
camaro730: I agree. LINE-X has a couple of products (Xtra and Nason) that will keep the liner ALWAYS looking black and glossy. Other brands have also addressed the issue and come up with solutions. Some are good, some are not good.

4. Have the dealer apply Xtra. Xtra is made by Dupont only for LINE-X. It’s more durable than Nason because it contains Kevlar and is a higher solids material. It looks a little better than Nason to me, although you may not be able to see the difference. Glossy, a darker black, will not fade, guaranteed. Price will be about $100 to $160, a little more for an existing liner. It's a great product and I love it, but it does not beat Nason for the bang for your buck award.
Can NASON be applied without the Line-X? That would seem like the best bang for your buck!
I've had the install done for about a week now. I like it.
The BedRug installed without a hitch and was pleasantly surprised at how nice it fit and how good it looks. I'm gonna like it.
They are molded to fit exactly so the end result is that of a flat bed. (thicker in the resessed areas of bed, etc) The molded in velcro secures it nicely. I dont know If I would have this if I wasn't putting a topper on it. I'd just be concerned about moisture trapped underneath. It does come back out too if I guy did want to clean underneath. Overall A+
I did the spray on line x deal on my 03' access and have a rubber mat on top. My neighbor has a work truck and prefers the drop in for his purpose..he just toss's stuff in and slides fwd and allows it to bang around without concern. Co owned work truck. My only problem personally with the drop in liners is, just how many of these things ive seen on the side of the road! as well as, IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FREAKIN ROAD!!. I drive for a living so maybe im just seing things the average cat miss's but im serious. In fact ive seen a few at night over the yrs and this cause a big swerve as there black and hard to see. Not quite sure why this is, other than maybe not installed properly?
I have a 2000 and did the Rhino lining over the rails...came out GREAT!!!
The spray wont even out dents, but the black krinkle finish will make them
very hard to see ($500 cost) I also have the ARE lid.
Hey Guys,
New Toyota owner here...
ok, here's the spill; Shopping for a new topper today, I discovered the BedRug box liner. I was so impressed, I ordered one up. I too was looking between a drop in or a spray in liner.
Radco dealers have these Bedrugs as well as mulitiple internet e-tailers.
Its basically a padded plastic carpet that will not absorb anything due to the closed cell construction of the pad. I dunno, Ill install it when it gets here and let you know how I like it. It's adhered with velcro strips (not crazy about but acceptable) and the sides of the box zip onto the floor. The tailgate piece is molded and attached to the bed piece not allowing anything to slip down between the bed and the tailgate.
We will see...but Im sold, so far.
Oh yeah, and me too....keep your advertising stickers off my truck.
It's in and it's all good. Very much like it. Great combo to go with the new Leer cap/topper. Install was an hour and easy. Im glad I chose this product.
Just curious, anyone know the average additional weight of the LineX or Rhino? Also, I saw a post about a week ago pertaining to the black plastic oval drain things, do we want them to spray over or temporary take them out?
