1Gen-TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2000 to 2006 Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "AAL's or blocks?", within the 1Gen-Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
I'm looking into a small lift by Daystar. It's a 2.5" spacer up front, and either a 1.5" block, of 1.5" AAL for the rear. I'm not sure which one would be better for my application because I still tow a 17' Lund bass boat around from time to time and I don't want the rear end to sag like crazy. Thanks for any help, i need it!

Go with AAL's for the same reason the previous post said. No wrap and another plus is you can stiffen up the rear for more hauling capacity . It looks better too and usually cost less.
Thank you for the advice guys. That will clear up some of the delima that I have been having.

JUST DON"T GETA DAYSTAR AAL!...it really sucks IMHO. It made the rear unbearably stiff...so stiff that the truck is only comfortable when towing/loaded. The Daystar AAL is devoid of any form of friction pads...so it tends to squeak really bad...makes your late model tundra sound like a 1930's farm truck...
If you don't offroad a whole lot just get the 1" block.

Oh wow thanks for letting me know that! Is there anything you did to the AAL about the squeking? And unfortunalty I do off-road a lot, and I don't really want to block because of what has been posted earlier about the axel wrap, and because I would rather have it be more level especaly because the block is only a 1" lift and it may look strange when I tow and the rear sags a lot.
If you really think the blocks are the way to go, i'll do it, I would just rather have a good AAL. Maybe I could find another brand, anyone know of a good one? Because I believe that I can buy the spacers for front seperatly without the AAL or block.
Oh and UsE_To_RoCk, how do you like the front spacers? Were they difficult to put in, and how did they affect your ride?
Thanks

I've been using a 1" block for the last year with no issues. With a 1" block you don't have to worry about anything, anything more I'd think about a leaf. Your gonna hear alot of people swear to AAL, but a 1" block isn't gonna hurt a thing.
I was running a 1" block for a while. I switched to an AAL a couple of months ago. I like the AAL better so far. I didn't have any problems with the block, but the truck sagged while towing. I would reccomend the AAL's from wheeler's. They come with anti squeak pads. They seem to work pretty well. I had a bad squeak with the blocks, but I haven't had it since I switched to the AAL's. (I also sprayed the leaf pack with a lot of white lithium grease when installing the AAL's.)

I modified some oem friction pads to work but if I go bouncing down rough dirtroads they tend to shift around get out of place. Right now, I have them pretty well set, I just have to remember not to get to wild....Also on the topic of AALs. If going with one, I too would recommend a progressive leafpack like the wheelers or deaver pack. It will not squeak as bad (or at all).
Best of luck with whatever you choose!
Gotta Love these Trucks!

Yeah the Daystar kit includes Daystar brand spacers, and Wheeler's AAL's. I'll probably be getting that kit rather than the ones with the blocks. Thanks for your help guys.

Do you have to adjust the brake proportioning valve with a 1" block, and does it affect the hellwig sway bar? Thanks
I moved the BPV up to the top of the factory bolt, it seemed like it had just an inch left in it. The brakes do pretty well with the BPV positioned where it is now. I really don't know if it is that much of a difference than what it was before though. On a side note, are you still in T'town?

Actually, if you have ABS you don't have to move it at all....
Here was the response I received from ToyTech in regards to my inquiry about Blocks verus AAl's. See attachment.

So with the 1" block I dont have to move it(I have ABS) Why is that?
-boody you just adjusted yours up after you changed over to the AALs, so it was adjusted with the blocks in place? Yeah I still am in T-town, almost finished with my house and still going to UA, Do you still have your old blocks? Is the ride really any worse with the AALs compared with the blocks you had?
