Im looking to tow a Trailmanor 3124KS. with a tongue weight of approx. 500#'s. I contacted Gary at Deavers and he suggested I install the 3 leaf overload replacement. I was told the stock setup is not suitable for such a tongue weight. Has anyone installed a pair of these ? Im being told your towing will improve dramatically, along with safty, with a minimal loss in ride comfort empty. 1998-2006 TUNDRA/TACOMA 2WD/4WD 1.5" Lift, 3 leaf overload replacementF85$211.11

Why not a weight distribution hitch?

Check your owners manual and check your Payload capacity.
Payload capacity-all the additional weight in your truck= acceptable hitch weight.

just make sure that the weight of the trailer is not more then the truck is rated for by Toyota and i wouldnt worry about a thing.

Those U haul trailers arent that heavy. Call U Haul and ask them the trailer weight and estimate how much weight you will put in it. Post the number up and im sure the Towing Guru's on this fourm will be able to help out.

I have a 1700# flatbed car trailer that I've hauled a '36 and '46 Chevy 1 1/2 ton trucks on. By my calcs, 1700 (trailer)+ 4365 (truck) = 6335. I definitely would not have wanted to haul it further than the 10 miles I needed to! I do have electric brakes on both axles of the trailer. The Tundra didn't bottom out on the rear suspension, but it felt very light on the front wheels. Towed fine at 45, but I didn't want to go more than that. No hills either.

That is a bad idea. that problem is 90% of the tundra braking ower comes from the front. By overloading the rears you are removing weight from the front. I tow thousands of miles a year and the only way to do it is safely.

If you relocate the brake proportioning bracket it will fix the brake bias issue from a lift.

I tow a Wells Cargo Cycle Wagon that is 15' long and weighs between 3500 and 4000 lbs
with all my gear. My Tundra can comfortably tow this as long as the road is flat and
there isn't a big headwind. As you can see my trailer is below the rated weight Toyota
publishes but I have had to make many modifications to make the pulls safe.

My trailer has a tongue weight of 350 lbs so I use a weight distrubution hitch to lessen
the nose up tendency. I have also installed higher load rated tires, Bilstein "Red" shocks,
sway bar, bigger brakes, supercharger, headers, dual exhaust, deep sump tranny pan and
an electric fan for the transmission cooler. This combination gets down the road fairly
efficiently and safely out of overdrive, but I wouldn't push the rear end or tranny any
further, both are weak links.

The 1st gen Tundras are just not ideally suited for towing anywhere near the limit, I
agree 100% with RockyMtnRay in that you are driving a V8 powered Tacoma, so plan
accordingly.

I have an 06 DC 2wd, and I occassionally haul a boat/trailer that weighs approx 3200 lbs with no problems. The biggest haul I have done was a uhaul car trailer w/ a 99 audi a4 quattro on it. According the specs on the trailer and car, the whole thing weighed between 5500 and 5600 lbs. I hauled it several hundred miles from VA beach to Staunton, VA, then back home to Charlotte, NC. You could notice the weight back there, but she handled the extra weight fine, even through the mountains. I don't think I'd want to run it with an extra 1,000lbs tho, especially through the mountains.

This is my first post. Hello all.

Anyways, I just sold my 05 Titan 4x4 crew cab and bought a 05 Tundra Double Cab 2wd TRD... I have towed the earth and the stars with the Titan. Looking at 8000lbs from Vegas to Tampa Florida, and now Im sitting in a truck with 3000 lbs less capacity lol...

I have my 2 car trailer, and a nissan 240sx with about 20 sets of tires... The titan pulled it like a red wagon... Tundra.... Not so well... Climbing hills makes me think this trucks gonna blow up. Ive never seen 7000 rpms on anything but my racecars lol until I towed this trailer to california.

This truck besides towing and SPACE INSIDE is 50000X's better than the titan. believe me, i get about 6MPG more than the titan in all areas.

Towing a 6,300lb CNC lathe on a 3,000lb trailer didn't work out too well for me..

Trailer fish-tailed and pulled the truck right off the road.

Those are RobbyGordon wheels.

New bed, that was about it. Biggest pain is my truck is a Limited and finding a used bed was nearly impossible at the time. Insurance bought a new one from toyota, 12k in damage lol.

Was quite the ride I must say. ha ha
