1Gen-TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2000 to 2006 Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "test drove a nissan titan yesterday", within the 1Gen-Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
Got to work this morning and there was a brand new 06 Titan LE in the parking lot...seems our VP decided that was the truck for him.
So in I went to his office and demanded the keys. Without hesitation he tossed them to me and told me to drive it like I stole it (I let him do the same with my Tundra, so he owed me).
I have to say I really like the thing. I know a lot of folks here don't like the interior, but I love it. The stereo will play mp3 discs and it has an auxilliary input. The seats are comfortable, and the rear seats will flip up to give you the Astrodome back there for stuff.
The power is phenomenal and it shifts nearly as smooth as my Tundra. Brakes are great.
I do not like the exhaust note. If I want a tough exhaust sound, make it come out the pipe instead of tuning it so it comes in the cabin. It almost sounds like it's an electronic fascimile of a real exhaust tone. The bed is too short and not very deep.
I took the truck around corners waaayyy to fast, hammered the throttle, went over curbs (slowly), everything within reason that did not leave evidence of my abuse, and the truck handled it quite well. As I have said in other posts about the Nissan cars that I own, it feels very solid.
I looked with an objective eye at the interior and just do not see poor fit and finish as some folks say. I think it's quite good IMO.
I AM NOT SORRY I BOUGHT THE TUNDRA, AND STILL LOVE MY TRUCK MORE THAN THE TITAN, but it is a close second. None of the other 3 brands come close to these two. I know Titan had (and maybe still have) problems with brakes and rear ends, but if they get those fixed and put on a little bigger bed back there, they got a hell of a truck.
I think Nissan did a very good job of taking the pickup to the next level of design...they came in with a powerful truck with some innovative features. For a first try, it is a remarkable accomplishment. Toyota has the time behind them and reliability, which in the end is really more important to me than anything else. Obviously we are going to see something awesome from Toyota in the next few months. I don't think the new Tundra will leave anything lacking compared to the Titan when the new model comes out.
http://www.titantalk.com/ anyone thinking of buying a titan should go to the above site , its the titan equivalent to ts. i don't believe Nissan quality is just slightly less than Toyota, even on the engine trans.
Yep, I was on Titan Talk a few nights ago and it's funy how they always seem to compare the Titan to the Tundra and they all wish the Titan was as well built and reliable as the Tundra.
on the titan web site they claim we bash the titan because we are jealous. go figure?. but our thread on titan bash correction (truck bashing) was started and named by rsmith44 a titan owner.
Yep, new vehicles showing up in the parking lot at work tend to trigger the "let's check it out" rituals Anyway, a guy here unloaded a GM SUV thingy (trailblazer?) for a new Titan - his purpose was pulling his 30' TT more effectively, but I think he had occasional repair issues as well. I drove Titans before I went with the Tundra and the interior decor and bed size were the main factors against the Titan for me. But, even now when I drive his Titan I'm impressed with the off-the-line launch in comparison with the Tundra. At the same time, I also notice that while my Tundra keeps pulling as the revs rise, his Titan seem flatter at higher revs. As an aside note, we run about 20 employee vehicles in the parking lot and there are no GMs left - his was the last holdout, and he got tired of various hassles so off to Titan-land he went. Now there are none left. Audis, Beemers, TWO Tundra DCs, couple of Rams, Nissan Altimas, new Mazda 6, etc. No GM products at all.
i have a tundra and my dad just bought a 05 titan the titan is a lot bigger and weights more but for nissans first "real" truck its not bad pretty powerful. we always jack each other about each others trucks but for the price the titan is a pretty good deal. i have 216,000 on my tundra and my dad trying the match it. NOT HAPPNING I GOT A TOYOTA!!
