Default New size tires..what about spare?

Have a 2005 DC. Will need to purchase new tires soon. Present stock size is 265/65/17. Planning to go to 265/70/17 due to larger selection. What about the spare? Do I need to upgrade it? Just thinking if I have to use it and since it will be about 1" less in diameter, will it hurt anything for a 20-50 mile drive to repair a tire?
Any thoughts or comments....thanks.

I use to work for a big tire company, and when asked about "what to do with the spare?" One option I would recommend was to trade in the spare towards a new or used tire. Hope this helps!

If you're lucky enough to get the flat on the front, there's no problem with different wheel sizes as long as you're not using 4wd. On the rear, your differential will get a workout and I wouldn't drive it very far. It can't be much different than the wimpy spares on passenger cars, but I'm not sure.

The front is a open diff so having mis matched tires is not ideal but not a big deal. If you have a LSD in the back DO NOT put the spare on the back. Swap a good tire from the front to the back and put the spare on the front. Clearly, this is not a good option if you off road your truck.

I appreciate the input. Feel a little better about going with this different size replacement set. Suggestions were very helpful.
