1Gen-TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2000 to 2006 Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "Teperature Control Dash Dial", within the 1Gen-Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
Hello Everyone,
Can you tell me if anyone is having a problem with the round temperature selector dial,(blue/red scale), on the dash of your Tundras?
I have a 2002 Tundra Limited and it seems like it will freeze and you can't turn the dial from cold to warm.
I had a fun trip to work this morning with my defrosters blowing out ice cold air on a frozen windshield. I did not want to force the dial and break it. It finally untawed about five hours later. Again, it was one cold ride.
From what I know... there's a couple things I can think of that it might be. The easiest thing to do something about would probably be to open up the hood, and look for a cable coming out of the firewall that goes to the water valve (it'll move if you move the temp control in the cabin). Somewhere on here there's a tsb that talks about it for air conditioners that don't get cold enough that may help you with the water valve. Anyway, check and see if something is binding there, might just need some lube. If that's not it, take off the center bezel (I think that's what its called) (5 screws, 3 of which are behind the knobs, the other two can be accessed if you point the two center vents up). Take it off and inspect the cables and gears back there. If you don't find any problems with either of those, good luck, maybe someone else will have other suggestions.

Thanks to all,

If it's like my 2000 control, moisture collects inside the wire cables core and freezes overnight inside the interior. Usually it will operate again after the interior's been warm for a while. I spray/drip a penetrent into the cable under the hood at the firewall where the control cable connects to the warm water heater valve. It's a slow process as it will only accept a drop or two then a wait then do it again. After mine did this the first year I had it I now start this process in late fall and it's worked fine every time.

If a combo of all these whizz bangs met their claims you'd have to syphon gas out of your tank every second day and sell the excess horsepower on the third????
