Had some small chips on my paintwork and have touched it up with the toyota touch up paint. Looks great, but there is a small bump where the touch up paint went. Is there some way to polish down this paint bump? Do you use 2000 grit sand paper or you just buff it down with an orbital polisher and rubbing compound? And advice greatly appreciated. Thanks

I own Paint Majic of New Mexico (www.projectpaint.com) and I do this kind of stuff every day. If you have a bump thats good, use a sanding block (or something FLAT) with wet or dry 2000 grit sand paper. Use a water bottle or spray bottle to keep the area WET! You must keep it REALLY wet in order to not burn (sand through) the clear. Lightly sand it in a circle pattern while keeping it wet with water, it should not take very much sanding, just enough to flush the bump. After that get some med. cutting AND polish compound and buff it shinny (by hand or buffer). Thats it! Good as new.
Where can I get the med cutting and polishing compound? Can you suggest something specific from Walmart, Fleet Farm, or Menards?
Thanks
Great advice, thank you so much!!
At least you have laid the framework for me.
Dont get the cheap stuff! I would use Mothers or a 3M brand. You can find them at any auto parts store (PepBoys,NAPA,AutoZone, Etc..). Just make sure it is a CUTTING and a polish (unless you want to muy both), if it is just a "polish" the scratches will come back after a few washes. After you buff it out make sure to wax the area good with a name brand Carnuba wax (beacuse you just sanded and buffed all the wax off). Hope this helps.

I use a detailing towel and Langka. it seemed like a scammed (info mercials),
but it really worked well for me. My touch up blobs completely disappeared.
Works best on flat surfaces. I think edges or large damage you will need
a different approach.
