Gentech Auto Dim or Exon Science Auto Dim Mirrors?
Ok...which one should I get?
The taiwanese Exon Science blue auto dim mirror with compass and temp for USD78 or the Gentex green auto dim mirror with compass and temp for about USD150?'
The other difference is that the display on the gentex is on the mirror whereas the one on the Exon is on the chin below the mirror. Any advice or opinion appreciated.
Re: Gentech Auto Dim or Exon Science Auto Dim Mirrors?
I am looking into getting one as well. The Exon is way cheaper and has a UV sensor (not that I care too much about it, but someone might). I also like the display at the bottom although I wish it were green to match the truck's guages. Still for the price difference, I think I may go with it. The other idea I have is to go to salvage yards. Tons of cars are equiped with these mirrors and you may be able to pick one up for $30 or so. I may call around about that.
Where are the best prices on these mirrors? Gentec on ebay is $160 and up depending on what features you want. Exon is $80+ on ebay right now.

Re: Gentech Auto Dim or Exon Science Auto Dim Mirrors?
I have the Exon brand. I purchased it from ebay for over $120+ cam lock kit and UV sensor was an extra when it first came out. It was still alot less expensive that the Gentex brand and it includes the comp/temp and UV sensor (sold separatley at the time). Supposedly it let's you know how much UV light is outside and depending on the bars it lets you know if you are prone to getting sunburned. I don't use it although it is installed and may come handy again this summer.
If you have a 2000 Tundra to 2002, (I forget the year the rear view mirror mounts were changed, 2003?) you will need a cam lock adapter kit.
Anyway, I have had it now for about 5 months and it works just as good as the Gentex brand I have in my Maxima (that came standard in 02). The quality and finish is as good as the Gentex. I think these are similar to the Donnelly brand where the display is not on the mirror but below.
I only wish the display color was greenish like the Gentex brand. The blue does look cool but my dash lights are green and that would mean having to change out my bulbs and get a HU with blue lighting. Hmmmmm
Re: Gentech Auto Dim or Exon Science Auto Dim Mirrors?
where does the UV sensor mount? The Temp sensor is best behind the front bumper, right?

Re: Gentech Auto Dim or Exon Science Auto Dim Mirrors?
The UV sensor is shaped like a nut and goes throught the hole on one of your lic plates. You feed the wire through the hole and screw it into the lic plate mount. It is slightly larger than the plastic lic plate mount so mine has a bulge in the plastic (careful it may crack the mount, you may want to drill a slightly larger pilot hole). Once it is through the hole in the mount you run the end to the wire coming out of your firewall and you tie strap everything down to make it neat. The kit comes with those plastic tubes with a slit to keep all your wiring neat and looking factory.
If you don't like it on the front bumper, it has to mount somewhere outside the vehicle.
In all honesty, I dont even have the UV sensor turned on! It's a neat feature if you need to know if you will sunburn so you can put sunscreen on. Good for little kids. Not sure how accurate it is and it's the first I've seen on a car. It's probably an accessory on some luxury cars.

I am trying to get a 10% discount so that would give the best deal. Plus the fact that it has a no-hassle return policy and free shipping. Beats all the ebay offers hands down. ebay seller currently do not allow returns.

Re: Gentech Auto Dim or Exon Science Auto Dim Mirrors?
I installed the Exon last week on my 2006 Tacoma. I used the factory wiring harness. It works well. Paid $80 including shipping and handling from ebay. Only complaint is that the damn thing defaults to compass mode each time I start the car. I have not found a way to have it default to display temperature in DegF and Heading. It is slightly annoying to have to toggle the settings in order to have it display temperature and heading. The installation requires that the mirror be connected to constant power and ignition power, which I did.
