Default Anyone who owned an Access cab, then bought a Double cab, regret doing so???????

I had an '03 Access cab, and now have an '05 Access cab.

However, I am drooling over the '06 Double cab w/ the X-SP package. Has anyone gone from an Access cab to a double cab and regretted it b/c of the size difference or any other reason(s)??? Or, has anyone who purchased a DC regret it????

Any insight is appreciated!!! Thanks!!!

Traded my 2003 AC in on a used (11k miles) 2004 DC back in August of 2005.

My only regret...not doing it sooner.

I had an'02 Access Cab and now have an '05 Double Cab and would never trade back to the Access Cab. the Double Cab is all the Access Cab is and then some! You will not regret.

Went from a used 00 Access cab Tundra with bad brakes to a wonderful 05 Taco AC that was not big enough for my 5'3" 10 year old to an 04 Tundra Double Cab. Love the truck but sometimes wish I got the Taco double cab. Got 20 MPG with the Taco. 14 MPG with the Tundra but it is much more truck. Now if I only I could pry the keys out of the wifes hand.

I had a green 2002 AC 4WD which my wife wrecked. I knew I wanted another Tundra so with the price being right I purchased an '05 AC. Great truck and was a beauty (you can see it in my album). However, every time I passed a DC I got to really wanting one. It would have been smarter to have made that decision before I got the '05 AC, but oh well.

Anyway, got my '06 DC and absolutely love it. My wife drives a convertible so I tried to justify it by saying we needed a larger truck for when we carry people around. You can justify anything. In the end she realized I was going to get it and that was it. All she said was, "If you get it, please just get exactly what you want so you will be done for awhile." She's such a sweet heart.

I love my DC

Unless if you have a garage that is not large enough for the DC but fits the AC just nice. Or when you have to pay 3000 dollars more to get the DC. Or when there is only 2 in the family and the extra space is not that necessary.

Thankfully the only other person in my family who has keys is my Mother, and she loves anything with a V8. I wish I got better mileage, but I chose the V8 and I live with that choice. Everytime I go to the gas station.

Honestly, the Access Cab is best recommended for small two-people one dog (or two small dogs) families or for starter families. Once you start posting threads such as "rear facing child seat in Access Cab" then it is time to consider upgrading.

had a 00 Tacoma, then a 01 access cab and now an 04 DC. As the family grew so did the truck. I would never go back to an access cab but might consider a tacoma DC since it has about the same amount of rear passenger space as a Tundra DC. I just wish there were more aftermarket goodies for the Tundra like there is for the Tacoma. Anyhow, NO REGRETS!

I had an AC Tacoma and went to a 2005 DC Tundra X-SP. The only thing
I really miss is the maneuverability. The DC Tundra is a much bigger truck and
often requires backing up to orient correctly in parking spaces. But I'm used
to it so it's not really a big deal.

Also, my Taco was a supercharged TRD off road 4x4. Even though my new
tundra is also 4x4 I'm a little reluctant to take it off road.

the DC is a great truck. the only thing you'll miss is the peppiness of the 4.7 in the lighter truck and the smaller turning radius. the extra 400 lbs or so in the DC (plus another 400 if you're going from 2 wheel to 4 wheel) plus the extra loads you can carry in the back seat (note, not additional gross weight carrying CAPACITY) will slow down the 4.7 a bit. the vvti engine compensates somewhat for this starting in 05. plus, you get higher gears in the pumpkin, but if you go to larger tires you might want to consider regearing or doing some engine mods which aren't well developed for the vvti engine yet. (ie, no well documented headers tuned for low end or supercharger, etc)

overall, you'll be very happy with the extra space, easy to get into doors and a well designed and nice riding vehicle.

Speaking on that, I am in the process of building a storage building in backyard. I measured my garage at least 10 times. I got a good 4 inches of clearance. Yeah. I am gonna have to build some stops as well as use the emergency brake when parking in the garage. That's how close it is.

My opinion,
The access cab looks so much better (I think the DC looks out of proportion), gets better mileage, performs better, is more manueverable, and until your kids are as big as you, they can ride in the back. When I was a kid, I had to ride in the back of Camaros and 280 ZX's (can you believe without DVD players....we actually had to have conversations with eachother when we were in the car!). It's part of being a kid to be crammed into a small back seat. Also, for me, my AC only fits in the garage by a few inches. No offense to you DC fans. They are good trucks too. I just like my AC.

I always trip over the stops in the garage floor and hate the hanging tennis ball. I just saw a neat little gizmo at home depot the other day. Its a little electric eye sensor for garage parking. Yellow light for when your close and red light for where to stop.

I had a 2000 Tundra AC for 5 years and loved it..as my daughter(now 3) started growing it did become very tight in the back seat..I now have a 06 DC and really love the extra room..
They are bigger and more difficult to park but honestly it's worth the extra effort to me

I'm not saying ones better than the other because both are great trucks and both are designed for different peoples needs..

The gas mileage on the two seem to be about the same for me(12-13mpg)..
My AC did seemed to have more pep even though it only had the 245 hp..I'm sure the new 271hp AC feel even better

Hate the suicide doors on the Access cab and after you try the regular 4 door you then realize what a pain they really are...
