Default tundra value

nice to see the new tundra coming online. bigger motor ...good. roomier, more robust...good.
i paid 27800 for 00 4x4. $500 plus for 5 yrs. paid off ...good. 100k and going strong...good.
i never want those payments again. i will at least delay re-upping as long as possible.
i like my truck. its not perfect. brake shudder, taps/ticks when cold. mileage about 15/16mpg. so why am i here?
everybody loves their truck, shows it in different ways.but you r fff-ing nuts if u think $5qt lubes and synthetic tranny fluid will change longevity that much..if i towed ALL THE TIME and wanted longer intervals maybe .
K&N filters, come on. headers...why rock the boat? 5yrs old my stock system is still on my truck. would replace w same.

my 89 corolla made due w alternating sale dino oil and fram filters. sometimes i would end up w 4 odd brands from case finishings and run that brew for 5k.
when they did emissions test last time tech said motor was as tight as new
had 200k on it when i traded for tundra. many was the long winter when i wished i had simply kept the corolla.new is good, convienient, but the cost
is huge.
and then take an engineered product and start changing it?
some people have the talent to really tune, i am sure, but most fritter away cash and end up w less than they started with, or paying a mechanic to fix what they did.

yes, let me pour on some "royal purple" add a dash of "marvel mystery oil"
and some "schaeffer's" oh so special gear lube for the differential. amsoil too.
hey, all good stuff, but ought to be for 5x the cost. i will put on a helmet and pretend i am in the baja 500 on the way to work monday too

I understand what you are saying....you can overspend your need for better better better and what do you have in the end? Nothing more... I am also one that can't understand the 3k oil change out. It is a proven fact that the oil companies and quickie lubie places started that crap. 5k is a good time. (now if you live on dirt roads, ok, maybe so) I will put on my helmet too, as I go to work on a paved surface...

That is why we buy the Toyota brand, for longevity and dependability. It has been proven up to now. We will see in years to come IF it stays the same or like others become arrogant with their brand.

OK point well made but it's not black and white like you make it out to be. Most parts on your truck are not engineered for best performance. Most parts on your truck are engineered to be a compromise. For example the stock manifolds are a log style manifold engineered to fit into tight spaces and engineered to be inexpensive to manufacture. They compromise exhaust gas flow for that and so therefore power. The stock muffler is engineered to be very quiet at the expense of a little bit of power.

The JBA headers and similar headers are engineered to give the Tundra more low-end torque and pulling power over the stock manifolds and replacing the stock muffler with a higher flowing muffler compromises more noise for a little more power. Would you like 302 lb ft of torque at the rear wheels instead of 271? Some people like the added power. In fact it's one reason you might have chosen a V8 Tundra over the V6 because the V6 will do the job for most of what you might use the truck for. Why pay more and buy a V8?

Dino is good enough for most of your vehicles but synthetics allow you to go longer between oil changes. Some allow you to change the oil every 15000 miles like Mobil 1 instead of 5000 or 7500 miles. Synthetic motor oils also have a superior viscosity index over regular oils, which help get the oil moving faster to engine parts on those cold mornings. It's a fact that most engine wear occurs during those first few seconds that it takes for the engine oil to get to the moving parts when you first start your truck. On colder days it takes longer! Synthetic motor oil is also not prone to sludge buildup like regular oil is, this has been a problem that has plagued Toyota engines in the past. If those people had used synthetic motor oil in those engines than those engines might not have failed due to excessive sludge buildup.

I do agree with you though in that not all aftermarket parts do what they claim to do. For example a larger aftermarket exhaust system costs you power and you get more noise; same thing with the K&N intake system. You loose low end power in lieu of high end horsepower and gain more noise, which is not what most people think they are getting.

The good thing about all of this is with Tundra Solutions you can learn what works and what doesn’t before you buy that aftermarket part or you may decide as you have that you’re happy with the way your truck performs from the factory.

hahahaha! true that.

ive learned alot here at TS reading through all the bs and informative stuff.

no cold intake mods for me, no TB spacer, no flowmasters, no mods of any kind come to think of it. i did debadge my ride and i buy mobil1 from costco. i use oem oil filters too. i have no probs running dino oil, it depends on how much i got to spend i guess. penzoil was good enough for my turbo supra when i couldnt afford the good stuff, and that was often.

no header mods for me either. whats the point if im going to plan a turbo mod later down the road, ill probably mod a stock set of exhaust pipes or build custom. (lex, i hope you are reading this)

sure its nice to have a v8 truck with a nice rumble note, but not at the expense of some torque. as a city truck, i cant afford to loose any get-up-and-go power, it only has a 5k redline. heck id sacrifice 50 hp ponies if i could get 50 more lbs of twist at my tires. ill show that stI that he aint getting my pole position from traffic light to traffic light.

leaving my truck stock for now, cant wait till the warrenty expires. if im still in the mood to mod my truck in 16 months or extend the warranty, we'll see.

mobil 1, penzoil, castrol syntec blend. awe whatevers on the shelf. mix-n-match!
